#RP-PVP Realms, Reconsider One Realm

I imagine we’ll be just fine.

you didn’t happen to play Fall from Heaven 2 xP?

B.S The guy who posted that topic didn’t ONCE post in here, to help in any fashion the struggle of even getting a server. People like that are no friend of mine. I can see where he’s coming from but the point he didn’t even try to come off as understanding in anyway shape off forum is no good, and i will not accept it.

It’s interesting to note the RP server and Pagel where both low but i hear they upped the sever cap some way. But you don’t need that many to RP-PVP i mean in one discord you got over 1.5k and that’s just a discord. We had server caps at 3k back in the day i’m not worried myself.

That in no way absolves the hypocrisy of that poster I quoted. Neither he(she) nor the author of the other thread that you mention are representatives of the RPPVP community.

They indeed raised the caps in some fashion. Many of the servers were at high pop, and then suddenly switched to medium.

I have no fear that Grobby will have quite sufficient stable pop numbers if not a queue once layers collapse.

While this is true. I have no doubt in my mind, that the folks on Grob will be accepting in a majority at least. There are quite a lot of None hardcore Rpers rolling on here who are no Fan of the Ivory tower elite types. Who spit on those who can’t do 6-14 paragraph’s per post. We’ve already seen that.

That’s a good point. I don’t think anyone would appreciate a 20-man raid of RPers joining an AV just to hang out at one of the mines RP’ing about searching for Titan relics at the excavation.

Lmao, isn’t this what people do on all servers when they spend all that freaking time in the mines instead of holding the freaking bridge or FW RH?

But nah, i’m sure you won’t actually see that, most rpers are quite curtious and don’t let there slow paced roleplay ruin other peoples enjoyments unless EVERYONE agree’s to it before hand

This was point i wanted to drive home back in the dark days when we thought we’d never get the server type.

Grobbulus (RPPVP) What time zone are you?

I will tell my brother in law about this thread but he’s not a straw poll voter. Just in case, he’s Alliance and Alaska time zone (none yet). I voted. Thanks for putting these together.

Is our work even done? What has Grobbulus become?

It’s been singled out from Reddit to compete with Herod.

The reddit created server discord is jam packed with people who have no interest in what we fought for. Nor a care about server rules. The realm we worked so hard to get is being turned into just another PvP realm. This is a sad day.

I could wish for a rp pvp realm in chicago. The lag to LA is horrible for me.

Urivial pretty much nailed it when he posted awhile back in this thread. The RP-PvP server was never going to be a server exclusively for people who participate in RP (actively) with a PvP rule-set. These servers have always been a mixed population of people with varying focuses. It’s part of what gave them sustainability over the long term.

Some people only RP…or RP and PVE. Other people come to RP-PvP. Other people come only to PvP or only to PvP/PvE.

What has historically made RP-PvP servers special is they are beacons for people who are interested in the RP facet of WoW.

I originally came from Stonemaul back when WoW first launched. This Mage (who I named Illuminate while she was on Stonemaul and named changed to Saeres upon moving to Emerald Dream) was made about 2-3 weeks after WoW first launched. Stonemaul was just a normal PvP server with raiding and PvP guilds. I raided in a progression raiding guild back in Vanilla and we cleared everything except Kel’Thuzad.

When I moved to Emerald Dream years ago back during Cataclysm, I wasn’t planning on spending really any time RP’ing initially and came solely for the world PvP. My server’s world population had diminished considerably. I had out-lived many of the friends I met during Vanilla and the server rivals (ie. People I was actually emotionally invested in killing).

I became part of the RP community on the realm relatively quickly though because the RP scene on Emerald Dream was interesting. Guilds RP’d with one another in capital cities. People RP’d internally within their respective guilds.

I still spent a lot of time PvP’ing…competitively and in the open world…but I made time to participate in random open world RP and RP story arcs because other people who RP’d were passionate about what they were doing, and that attracted me to participating in RP.

The RP community’s best bet is to focus on enjoying RP with people interested in doing it, in addition to the PvP and PvE that classic has to offer.

I know very few RP’ers who don’t do BG PvP or PvP competitively…or Raid etc in addition to doing RP. It’s important to have a large enough population base so that your server can support multiple raid groups if you decide you want to raid. It’s nice to have more than 2-3 groups of players on your server who could help you do the PvP Rank System grind. Most players will never be Warlord or High Warlord in Vanilla…but that doesn’t mean people won’t form teams to do Premade honor grinds to rep farm, or grind up to more modest goals like getting Lt.General or General.

If you come to an RP-PvP server, you should be open to RP’ing and respectful of people who do RP. That’s not asking a lot. What makes RP and RP-PvP servers special isn’t that your punished repeatedly for not participating in the RP scene on an RP or RP-PvP server. RP and RP-PVP servers are special because they give people who wish to RP (in addition to doing other things) as place to congregate with like minded people.

Indeed, Bergahn!

RPPVP had many who did not participate in RP, but they still added to WPVP, PVE, and the economy.

This time around, there’s a different aura in the air. It’s not people saying “Hey, I like the mature server or tons of WPVP I’m going to head there.”

It’s something else which goes beyond the norm. I hope its all just hype and boredom while we count the days down.

We shall see…

I ain’t about gate keeping. Free country do what you want and all that, but i’m not so fearful of those Reddit types and so on, sure they’ll troll and be annoying but first month or so is going to be pure chaos that’s how it’ll be on all servers, It’s up to the RP-PvP community to make it more then just “Another” Pvp server, if we can’t do that. Then we don’t deserve the server we fought for as i said from the start. We asked for a chance, we now have it. We now have to live up to actively making the server into what we think RP-PVP is to the best of our ability, and without a doubt everyone has a different vision of that.

i mean this was gunna happen regardkess right?

I know I’ll be there RPing as much as I can. There are RP guilds forming as well. Don’t give up so early in the game on what we fought so hard for. There’s just a ton of hype for the game’s launch and now we finally have servers to cling to. Everyone’s just going bonkers, once we get our hands on the game it’ll calm down and I’m sure some bandwagoners will lose their interest and we will have a healthy population of RP-PVPers.

Oh come on guys, we’re gonna get along so well. Half of these people won’t even hack it.

At this point, the most important thing is for the RP-PvP community to not allow itself to be scared away by what we’re seeing right now, tbh.

The long-term health of Grobbulus and the RP-PvP community will be determined by how hard we fight for it, just like we fought for our RP-PvP realm in this thread for months.

As has been said, there will be a considerable drop-off of population, no matter what. People will quit before they get to 60, they’ll quit when they get to 60 because they don’t know what to do with themselves. The tourists are going to come around, the first few weeks and maybe even months of Classic will be chaotic and stressful, and then it’ll likely die down a bit.

What Grobbulus looks like once all of the people who can’t cut it have quit is up to us who stick around and work hard to bring RP-PvP to the server.
