About

The festival of Byltan celebrates the cycle of life. Where the saplings of tomorrow thrive thanks to fallen trees of the past, Byltan encourages its guests to learn from the lessons of old and focus on the potential of the future.

Byltan is a kaldorei holiday dedicated to the celebration of burgeoning Spring time. This year, the festivities and ceremonies are being hosted in Karnum’s Glade and will be open to both Horde and Alliance participants. We kindly ask that all Horde and Alliance parties treat the event with respect by honoring the festivities with peaceful participation. IC and OOC conflict of any kind will not be tolerated, and the Cenarion Wardens of Karnum’s Glade will be quick to escort transgressors out.

If you come from off-realm and require an anchor invite, please /whisper Celassa-WyrmrestAccord (Alliance) or /whisper Huwah-WyrmrestAccord (Horde) to be phased into the event.

Please explore below to learn about some of the festivities for the event.

Ritual of Renewal

Priestesses Celassa will lead those who wish to participate in the cleansing ritual. Traditionally this ritual is conducted with the intent of cleansing ones essence of the past year in preparation for all upcoming occurrences in the year to come. Those participating in the ritual are asked to don ceremonial robes which will be provided by the hosts.

Tree Planting Ceremony

To honor the arrival of spring, the Wolfmane Tribe will be leading a Tree Planting Ceremony within the Cenarion Wildlands surrounding Karnum’s Glade; both symbolical to life arriving to desolate glades recovering from winter, but also to aid in the Cenarion efforts of fostering regrowth.

For immersion, we recommend participants bring a Winter/Spring/Autumn Blossom Tree from Merchant Greenfield at the Sunsong Ranch in Pandaria, acquired through the Tillers. But please note that this is not a requirement to participate.

Mazu's Dance of Life

The Mazu'droru ("Flow of the Sea Goddess" or "Mazu's Dance" or "The Dance of Life" in Common) is a timeless ritual that takes place in early spring and involves dancing in heavy rain to offer positive, life-giving energy back to nature. Formerly regarded as one of the largest festival activities of the year in Auberdine Darkshore, community-hosted Mazu'droru rituals have greatly diminished since the port-city's destruction.

The ritual itself is meant to call upon the power of the sea to nourish the land for the coming year, and provide enough pure waters for life to flourish after the Byltan holiday.

OOC note: This is a lyric-led (in /say) group dance, involving specific movements everyone is intended to perform together in unison.

Costume Craft Contest

This is Byltan’s first ever transmog contest! Each contestant will need to provide a themed outfit and will be reviewed by a panel of judges. A ten minute window will be open for people to line up to participate after the ceremonies, and will be announced in /yell at the festival!

The theme of the contest is: Spring Companion Match. The objective is to create a Spring-themed matching set with a companion (pet or battle pet) of your choice.

Three winners will be selected (1st, 2nd, 3rd), and each winner will receive a gold prize. First and second place winners will also receive a special pet or mount in addition to their gold prize.

Libations & Celebrations

After the rituals, a period of wind-down time will take place including feasting, and an icebreaker gift-exchange.

:gift: Gift Exchange

The gift exchange is a portion of the event that involves giving a gift of your choice to a fellow member of the community. To participate, simply attend the event with a gift of your choice and ensure that it is in a wrapped gift package (click link to see limitations). Please, refrain from wrapping poor quality items, and please do not feel obligated to wrap expensive gifts. The gift exchange takes place during the feast at the end of the Byltan Festival. Gift roulette rules apply, which involves exchanging your gift with someone in the community up to three times, so that the gift you bring passes through 3 pairs of hands before finding its intended recipient.

:moneybag: Vendors & Entertainers

We encourage any who would like to attend the event as a vendor to do so in the grassy areas around the great moonwell in the center of Karnum's Glade.

:cherry_blossom: Budding Friendships

Those who are interested in making new connections are strongly encouraged to wear flowers in their hair or carry bouquets of flowers with them, to indicate you are looking to meet new people (are open to walk-up RP).

is there any formal way to sign up as a vendor for this?

Hello Riley!

Thank you so much for asking. Traditionally, vendors for the Byltan Festival event do not utilize formal sign-ups. However, vendors are welcome to set up shop in a location of their preference around the center of Karnum’s Glade during the event :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

And, of course, vendors/shops may open and close periodically throughout the event if ‘staff characters’ wish to participate in some of the festival activities as well. If you’d like to speak more about your shop, or the most ideal locations to set up, you can reach me on Discord at Feyawen#6264. Happy Spring, and thank you so much for your interest in participating as a Byltan Vendor! :cherry_blossom:

Is it permissible to bring a tree from another part of Azeroth for the planting? IC I’d like to contribute a tree from Pandaria if that is allowed.

So bummed that I have to work this night, but I put it on the calendar for the guildies.

This is absolutely allowed! The only OOC item we recommend bringing is one of the Winter/Spring/Autumn Blossom Tree from Merchant Greenfield. They are not required by any means, but a fun aesthetic toy to use for the tree planting ceremony.
