Oh, okay. Because the few I saw on Curse just looked like… Uh… BadKitty.
Unfortunately, I have no advice for monk. Since Mists I haven’t been able to quite wrap my head around that class.
…
Since ever I haven’t been able to quite wrap my head around that class.
Weak Auras are going to change your life, its one of those mandatory addons you cannot play wow without after having used it. Im kind of eexcited for you to learn of this!
I would also say class discords are not a holy grail of information. A lot of really dumb people are in those.
Weakauras is typically preferred for building UI elements / ways to track the rotation because it comes with its own customisation tools as standard, instead of another add on author having to write a customization menu by hand. The website wago. io is like curse specifically for weakauras.
In general it’s best just to see it as being able to infinitely customize the way the game displays information to you. That’s all any of the add on side of things is, different ways to display and customise the display of information.
Well, I kinda knew it existed but after my experience with GTFO and basically vomiting all over myself the first time it went off I’ve sorta… just avoided addons.
Probably should have came with a warning for those of us that use hearing aids lol
Interesting… I might have to plop a couple of logs into that thing. Thanks for the screenshots and info.
Understand your passives and stats, then your actions, then your talents, and then bring it all together in deciding where to focus.
Once all that is done, it’s all about getting a logical flow on your action bars to help commit it to muscle memory.
I read the actions and passives, then throw them on my bars in a rough order. Hit target dummy and reorder, rinse repeat until the flow of button pressing feels logical in relation to frequency and flow. Do again whilst doing world content.
Don’t need guides to tell me rotations or what is best. If I want to make my spec competitive I will write down my goal (eg 30 sec burst window) and then use a damage meter to tweak things further.
Weak auras have sounds, you can turn them off or change them. They can be anything from basic icons that flash to highly advanced ui elements to complete replacements for bigwigs/dbm.
You can share them by shift-clicking them into a chat the same way youd link an item. Eg you run a m+ and someones % count posts in chat after a 3rd boss kill that you need 1.04% more trash before heading to the next boss and you think hey thats pretty cool. That player can link you that weakaura right there on the spot - you just click on it and import.
I prefer to play with visual cues because at this point the game is sorta… noisy? Spammy? So I just take my hearing aids out and turn off the sound lol.
That’s why the screen effect for FFXIV is so good for me, the bars on the side and the flashing let me predict raid boss movements and abilities.
I think maybe it’s worth asking this as well. Do you have every rotational ability, so cooldowns, core spells, frequent utility / cc, bound to a key or combination of keys on your keyboard?
Apologise if that’s somewhat a patronising question, or it’s covered elsewhere.
I do! I have everything within reach of WASD cause even though I move with both mouse buttons, I use WASD to sorta strafe while moving? So my main class abilities are 1 to 5 since that’s the span of my hand, Q and E are stuns or spell locks/interrupts, then FGHJK are my AOE abilities. ZXC are movement keys. VBN are things like… in feral it’s the tiger thing you use constantly. TY and rare use but important cooldowns. IOP are my survival cooldowns. And then less useful stuff is on Hotbars 4 and 5.
Ok cool, just checking because it hadn’t been clarified elsewhere. Everything you just described, even rebinding to strafe on A and D is completely normal.
Well, all through vanilla and TBC I was keyboard turning and then my first real raiding guild was like “Um, wot?” Cause I used to click through my rotation XD
If you are struggling that much, you may want to try another class. WW monk can pump, but it is not one of the easier DPS classes in my opinion.
BM hunter, fury warrior and ret paladin have a lot more simple rotations, and their DPS is pretty good.
You can always dabble with more complex classes later when you feel more comfortable.
I mean, it’s been 20 years. I kinda have to just jump in eventually. I can’t put it off forever lol
And I’m sick of playing my main.
1 thing i’d do right off the bat is get rid of the +agility gems. You want the combo gems of Crit/Mastery/Vers (i.e. A crit/mast gem or a verst/mast gem etc.) You can utilize Peak of Serenity discord, they are a huge resource of Monk knowledge.
OH, I read that you’re supposed to prioritize AGI over all other things?
If anyone gets into a new class and finds that the priority /rotation is too overwhelming I’d probably recommend either cutting it up and practising smaller segments and piecing it together or not attempting to run the meta build with 10 active talents until they get the basics down first
No point in jumping in the deep end first if you’re just going to drown.
Also, if you’re decent at one class or spec and would like to branch out; set up the keybinds in the same way. Builders on the same keys, spenders on the same keys, cds on the same keys. You’ll already have the muscle memory and save yourself time.
You’ll get plenty of Agility from your gear, no need to gem Agility. Your secondary stats are what you should focus on gemming/enchanting. The only place i have a primary stat gem is the illimited diamond thats primary stat & crit
