It has been brought to my attention that there is a belief that we removed “evidence” that validates the claim that Xanilly was penalized for role-playing, so I’m going to undelete the post we removed earlier (since we felt it was misleading) and reply.
So to clarify… you were not suspended for role-playing. Unless you felt you were role-playing someone who violates our in-game Code of Conduct, in which case I cannot dispute that.
You claim in the above post that you copy/pasted what the Game Master provided “directly from the email”, but that isn’t true. You see, not only did you not copy/paste the content of the email, you deliberately altered the original text. The original text did not say:
“Damn stupid sexy elves…” or “…D-damn…” she mumbled before falling to her knee. "
In both cases what the Game Master sent you showed you didn’t use Damn; you used the F-word. You intentionally changed the wording used to mislead everyone reading and paint an entirely different narrative of what actually happened.
So again, no, you weren’t penalized for role-playing. You were penalized for using profanity.
Just to cover this… Profanity is not a big deal… to you. Perhaps based on how you were raised, as you said, but that is personal based on the individual. A lot of parents want to curb the amount of inappropriate language that their kids may exposed to, or that others simply don’t wish to see themselves. So, they make a choice, to pick games that have limits in the content they have (i.e. Teen Rated game) and restrictions on what kind of language is acceptable in the game (i.e. EULA / Code of Conduct).
Also to be clear, using profanity isn’t something we ban an account for immediately. It takes a several violations over time to build up to that. Usually the first penalty is a silence, then escalating suspensions designed to deter the behavior. Only if our policies have been violated repeatedly do we take that last step. It isn’t something we want to do, but it is necessary to try to foster the kind of in-game environment we want.
