Role-Playing Community for Classic?

Probably the biggest thing for me to get back into Classic would be a role-playing community or dedicated server. We all know the servers will exist but where is everyone gonna go? That’s the real question. I know there’s no way to really know but I’d at least like an idea of if there really is an interest in RP within the Classic setting and universe.

Consider that in Classic the game was much more of an RPG than it is now; the mechanics reflected more accurately the conditions of the world. Your character wasn’t treated as the singular savior of the world, storylines were varied and scattered across a large world that was always dangerous to you, resource allocation for mats was a lot more high-stakes, and the game revolved much more on building communities and working together or competing. Personally I think because of that Classic has a lot of potential for great role-play and I’m wondering who all is interested and if there even is a section of the Classic community that is into RP.

I’m looking to roll on a RP server, but right now we don’t really know where everybody will go since they haven’t said much about the servers beyond that they think RP-PvP is too niche.

Though I wouldn’t be surprised if there is only 1 RP server to start if they think RP-PvP is too niche, which makes the decision really easy for us.

I doubt there is just gonna be one RP server but hey, if there is it will make finding the community a lot easier. I’ve played on my fair share of non-PvP servers even though I prefer those; I just stay flagged for the same experience. :sunglasses:

I am a member of an already established Classic guild heading to an RP PVE server. We’re all set up on a website, Discord and a retail guild playing the game together already. So when Classic launches we will be familiar with our guildmates play style and personalities and will already be a close knit supportive community. We plan to experience all that Classic has to offer whether you want to pvp, raid, role play, etc.

My rping guild mentioned considering to create a time travelling plot to exist in wow classic :smile:

I kind of like the idea, but I wasn’t even sure if they confirmed RP servers in classic.

I would assume the “re” is an abbreviation for whatever the guild name is and “guild” is referring to the fact that this is, you know, a guild.

I’m sorry, that is the web site. Guild name is Random Encounter. We also have a recruitment post by our guild leader here on Classic forums.

Well, personally I hope there are more than a couple, because I’ve always preferred the road less travelled. I liked being on a smaller, newer RP realm where people weren’t lore snobs, and much of the focus was on all-around creativity.

If there is one realm that a bunch of people decide they want to make the top RP realm, I’d be concerned about it turning into a remake of MG - a realm I could never really find people I wanted to engage with. (Emerald Dream, with RP-PvP, was the only larger pop RP realm I found enjoyable, but haven’t had a character there since pre-Cata.)

I’ll certainly be rolling RP.

Idealy RP-PvP but there’s no word on that being a thing yet, so if Ion forsakes me I’ll just roll plain old RP PvE.

I have to say, this guild is the most organized, no drama, play your own play style, tight knit, supportive group of folks I have ever been in. I have played since April of 2005, and have been in several guilds. I highly recommend anyone who wants that type of environment for Classic to look into this guild.

As far as the RP PVE server, we already have a plan for how to choose which one to go to. Look into our official post in Classic forums for Random Encounter recruitment.

Redwood Tribe from Emerald Dream will be role playing in classic. I think we are hoping to see a classic server of the same name. That will make it easier for the rp-pvp folks to find each other even if the realm is designated pve.

Yeah. RP attracts a certain type it’s no secret. But I believe honestly the mechanics alone are gonna turn off these people. To me the RP has gotten worse the easier the game has gotten and the less mechanics reflect the universe. It just encourages a certain kind of god-modding, meta-gaming type of role play. I definitely saw less of it when the game was more of an RPG.

I would enjoy founding an all Forsaken guild on an RP server in Classic.

We would be suspicious and doubtful of our position in the Horde, and be hugely active in AV.

I have to think of a solid reason for our continuing efforts in that BG, but probably our adamant conviction that the Alliance means to invade Undercity and reclaim their fallen city.

I’m strongly considering going on an RP server for Classic.

Since I start wow in Dec '04, I’ve always been on a PvE server, but usually had some personal “head canon” RP for my characters as I play.

While I’d definitely enjoy RP, I also wanted to raid. Are there usually decent RP raid guilds that raid usually 2 (week) nights per week? :S

My wife and I are going RP server. We need more information though to make final choices of which one, guild, etc. But I know I’m looking forward to it. I have not gotten the chance to RP much in WoW (I mainly RP in ESO) so I’m hoping that changes in Classic.

I’m essentially going to play an earlier/alternate version of my Warrior here. A noble and honorable Orc warrior.
