My role is automatically set to tank when I join my raid group on my paladin in cata classic. Is there anyway to change your role manually now that they’ve removed the feature from talents? I’ve tried UnitSetRole as a text command but it did nothing in this version. I think it’s because I chose protection when i boosted this character now it automatically thinks I’m tank even though i choose DPS each time during the role check.
The raid lead can do a roll check and there you can select heals, dps or tank.
Other than that, they removed that ability under your character selection.
This is an example when the system thinks it is smarter than you and it is not. 
best of luck getting hold of a GM who probably will tell you theres nothing he can do
It’s been bugged since the prepatch. My ele spec is listed as healer and my resto as DPS. You can check if your other spec is listed as DPS and try making that one your ret spec.

Still works.
Have to make sure you use Damager for dps.
