After some amazing feed back to help a total noob like myself, i was able to pick a server, faction and race. Now my only dilema is would you guys roll a rogue or warrior for classic?
Is your server a PvP server?
If so, Rogue.
If it’s a PvE server, Warrior.
Believe you me—you do not want to be leveling a Warrior with Phase 2 around the corner on a PvP server.
I dont know what phase 2 is, but pvp server. If i cant battle the enemy faction or have being ganked on my mind its not as realistic to me haha.
But why is warrior so bad to level? I see u have a level 60 so ur insight would be nice.
Rogues can hide and remove themselves from the situation with cooldowns or avoid it all together.
Warriors c
Warriors are just not… ideal in open world PvP situations, particularly 1v1. They are slow enough to level on PvE servers. Phase 2 deploys on November 12 (the Honor system comes with it), and that means that you will face significant challenges leveling as a Warrior once you hit ~48.
Thanks for the info, what happens at level 48?
Level 60 players will start earning Honor by killing you repeatedly.
Warrior leveling is brutal, in comparison to literally every class in the game. Other classes have methods of disengaging from unfavorable exchanges, and resetting a bad pull. You do not. Once you’re engaged you either win, or you die. Most of the time, you will die.
Leveling a warrior as an alt is easier, because you can feed him gear. Warriors are massively gear dependent. More-so than any other class. This cuts both ways. On the onehand, once you’re in Naxx level gear, and you’re swinging that Might of Menethil around, you’re a god damned monster truck. But in the interim, you’ll be hitting like a wet noodle until you’ve farmed up your BiS and pre-BiS (which incidentally at the moment makes you a glass cannon. You’ll effectively be a Rogue with no cooldowns and a piss poor Dodge %, which makes you even easier to insta-gib in PvP situations, or PvE situations where you’re solo)
Even then, unless you have a healer buddy with you to roll around with out in the world, don’t expect to win your PvP engagements, in 1v1 against any player of equal level and skill. They will stomp you. You might win an odd engagement or so, certainly. But it’s not something you should expect. We’re not duelists. A level 50 Mage who knows what he’s doing can kite you forever with Rank 1 Frost Bolts even when you’re 60, and there’s isn’t a damned thing you can do about it.
On the other hand, Rogues have an easier go at it for leveling, and on top of that, can choose their battles, where if a Warrior gets spotted, it’s do or die.
On a PvP server, assuming you’re going lone wolf, as a Rogue you can decide when and who you want to engage. If someone opens on you when you’re not ready, you have any number of options to disengage, and come back swinging with a vengeance between Blind, Sprint, and Vanish.
Rogues can also actually beat Shadow Priests if you know what you’re doing. Warriors have no shot. None. (Bubbles stop Rage generation. Rage starved Warrior = Dead Warrior).
On top of that, as a Warrior you have no solo farm options for Gold. You want that epic mount? Best get a healer buddy to do Strat Live runs with you, or a Healer buddy to do DME Jump runs with you, or a Healer buddy to farm Eko’s with. Sensing a theme here?
As a Rogue you can solo farm RFD or BRD just fine and make bank between pick pocket and shard runs.
So really, it comes down to this. Do you have a Healer friend? If you do, Warrior is a strong choice. If you don’t, you might regret it later.
Granted, both of these choices is assuming you want to hit stuff and do murder. If you’re interested in tanking end-game, then obviously Warrior is the pick.
Ok so i would be playing solo most of the time. I am a legit new player to classic and only 30 ish level on retail.
I do enjoy tanking in mmos, but not if im gona pull my hair out by the end.
How about hunters and paladins? I also like the hybrid power/warrior style and like having a pet to attack.
Is the hunter bound to only using bow?
No, Hunters are a strong choice for a solo player. They have both melee and ranged options (although Ranged is absolutely your primary weapon). There are some bugs and server jankiness that impact Hunters disproportionately to other classes, but as a whole, they are a fine choice for a new player. Especially since you get a personal tank in the form of your pet, and have little to no downtime between pulls, as opposed to Warriors who have to eat after every 2 mobs, and casters who have to drink constantly.
You can also solo farm dungeons for money as a Hunter, which removes you from being a gank target, competition, and allows you to farm raw gold, which does not rely on other players or the AH for income.
If you want to play a Paladin, as Ret (rather than the standard healer role) you’re more than welcome to, but you should be fully aware of what that entails.
It entails auto attacking, auto attacking, and to top it all off, more auto attacking.
They can be highly effective in PvP, but suffer some of the same gear dependencies as Warrior. They do not perform well at all in end-game PvE due to scaling issues.
Hunter sounds good, honestly i just like using big greatswords in these games.
Ret paladin doesnt get abilities?
None that you can push for damage really. Ret Paladins in Vanilla were played by throwing on a seal, and then auto attacking.
You have alot of support abilities and CCs. Your damage however, is largely burst oriented in PvP, with some RNG on when and how often it procs (Seal of Crusader).
Rogue is more comfortable to play, Warrior is the highest DPS however.
Ret Paladin is pretty bad. It just doesn’t fit very well until TBC… if you’re a Blood Elf. Alliance Ret is still quite weak. As a Hunter, I rerolled already - we scale very badly (and are the weakest already of the 4 pure DPS) and we have a number of bugs that ruin the feel of the class and its performance in PvP.
I thought a player had to be under 10 levels. IE: 51. Sort of moot because you will experience it regardless.
To a lesser extent of you will also have to deal with same level pvp and the warrior toolkit is garbage at lower levels. It’s really not until 40 that you’ve got a decent set of skills to fight back and then you’re closing in on 60 fodder.
But also leveling in P2 will be pretty dicey until BGs launch regardless of what you play, more often than not a 60 that counters you will be around to send you to the GY, but I also think that you will be fine if you can get to less popular areas. Like I wouldn’t expect azshara to be a gankfest or something.
Once you get around 50 or so you’re probably going to be grinding secluded spots or dungeons to get to 60.
Alright thanks for all the input guys appreciate it. Im going to try a little bit of each to see how they feel and go from there.
I think i will pass on hunter as i dont like ranged combat at all.
So i will try rogue, warrior and pally.
I recommend Rogue myself, it’s the most comfortable to play in a casual setting and has the most room for flexibility and growth. Paladin and Warrior are fairly one dimensional.
You only get honor for like… 10 levels below you. If some 60 is camping his 20 something warrior being a rogue isn’t going to save him.
Anecdotal of course, but I have most certainly been Blinded by a lvl 30 rogue while at 60 before.
A Warrior has 0 recourse.
That must have been one amazing rogue! Most rogues can’t get blind until 34.
Well, ignoring impossibility, there’s always a chance they can land it.
