Rogues just have a better tool kit for world PvP, and playing in general in a lot of ways.
Iâve played most classes at this point - through vanilla, bc, and wotlk. I havenât leveled everything to max but have a good handle on them all at this point I feel.
Classes that I think are best for solo play? Anything except a warrior. Iâd even go to say - most melee classes arenât the most sustainable for solo play except for druid.
- A good druid can heal, go into form and kill something, heal, rinse repeat. I consider them one of the best classes for anyone to play as they are so versatile.
- Mages are pretty nice with the free water/food as well.
- Warlocks never stop once you start life draining. With a pet as well it makes it easier than many others to take on multiple mobs at once.
- Hunter is non-stop if played well - the pet is a huge help here as well.
- Paladin is boring but effective - it was my main in vanilla and if you like healing end game I recommend it. They can be tough for some classes to kill as well.
- Priest is super sustainable but boring as you shield, blast, dot, wand everything to death and it takes time. Also everyone thinks you should be a healer.
- Rogue is just fun. Front-loaded kill fast with the ability to sneak about. I wouldnât say they are the fastest but having food and keeping up first aid will keep you moving.
- Warrior is similar to rogue but without the ability to run away if stuff hits the fan.
- Shaman are interesting and I put them into a similar spot as paladin - neat stuff going on but mainly youâll be stuck healing end-game.
I can remember hitting 48 in Tanaris back in vanilla on my druid fighting a mob. An undead level 60 rogue had been watching me. Saw me kill the mob, ding 48. Clapped at me, and then murdered me for the honor points. Fun times.
Ok so quick update, tried warrior and rogue so far on my phone while cooking lol. Rogue definitely seemed better, stuff died faster and well it was less boring thats for sure.
I always go warrior in games, so im going to go rogue for a change of pace. Thanks everyone!
Edit- its crazy how vastly different classic is from retail, retail holds your hand like a toddler and even the classes play totally different.
All these people talking down on warrior and talking up roguesâŚplease. youâre ignoring all the pitfalls of rogue as well.
I have a 60 warrior and Iâd go through the rough leveling grind again because it is so worth it at 60.
Nothing else in the game compares to utterly destroying enemies or swinging an entire fight in your favor with one swing of your weapon. Granted warriors arenât great without healers, you can hold your own in alot of situations, but you have to really know your stuff and be on top of things. With a healer or in a group setting, warriors are hands down the best class in PvP.
Rogues are solid in 1v1, and as such, are possibly the best (druid also being up there) in WPvP. They are pretty reliant (however not entirely) on cooldowns as well. And in a group setting or even with a healer, are squishy and will die pretty quickly if targeted.
Simply put, warriors can be game changers. Rogues cannot. However rogues are much better in WPvP and 1v1s, where warriors tend to struggle.
Itâs not murder. Itâs called retirement.
Quick update, been loving playing rogue in classic. Enough so that im gona do a rogue in retail. Now my biggest dilema is worgen or nelf for retail.
Worgen look cool but racials suck and head gear and shoulder is awful.
Nelfs have amazing racials for rogue, look great in all the armor, but have a super boring starter zone imo.
What u guys think?
Warriors arenât the best at PvP by themselves. Rogues are unparalleled at solo PvP
In group PvP warriors can do a lot of damage and take a lot of damage, they usually walk (not run lol with all the CC on them) and get healed back to back from healers and beat at anyone that gets near them
Idk about rogue because Iâve never played one but in group PvP I think they should sneak to the back and pick off healers. In that regard they could be more useful than warriors in a fight. Iâve never played either class thatâs just my opinion
Edit:
No idea youâd probably be better asking on retails forums. The worgens look pretty cool but border on a little too cool in my opinion. Is edgy the right word?.. Idk lol thatâs my opinion
Arms warrior with top end gear should destroy most rogues. Warrior with bad to mediocre gear = pretty meh.
im pretty much in the same boat as the OP and its put me really far behind in terms of classic leveling . the one issue i have is being a pure dps and trying to find dungeons group at max level.
I personally went with rogue cuz im a solo player and it seems much more suited for that kind of play. I almost always go warrior in games aswell so its a nice change of pace.
im thinking i might stick with the warrior i know they have there faults but swinging a big 2h and maybe getting a shot at corrupted ashbringer will keep me going
This is some short term thinking, After ZG a good warlock can kill a rogue, A warrior can SMASH anything but a mage and as of naxx warrior is king if played right in pvp and pve but such is classic imbalance.
While it is completely true that a Naxx geared warrior running around with Might of Menethil is going to demolish things, itâs equally true that the vast majority of the population will never even see Naxx, much less be fully Naxx geared.
Rolling a character banking on being that guy fully decked out in dream epics is a recipe for disappointment imo. Sorta like all the Enhancement shams who thought they for sure were going to be the ones with Hammer of Rag this go around.
Knowing what a class is capable is one thing, moderating expectations is another.
I say short term because blizz stated as long as people are playing the servers will be online, its not hard to believe 3 years from now there will be 200 naxx geared tanks on your server who are fury prot and carry around might because the dps already have it.
Iâd say ignore the stuff about phase 2. It wont be as bad as people think and any of those three classes has ways to survive. Play the class you enjoy the most. For rogue itâs all about building combo points for finishers so it takes some quick judgement on how many points to build / which finisher to use. It can get kind of bland in pve, but we have stealth which is a whole lot of fun and pvp can be loads of fun. Warriors can tank everything which is cool, and I think their play style is a bit faster paced and engaging with more damage abilities and stance dancing. Paladins require the least amount of active engagement, but you can tank or heal. At end game youâre basically stuck healing unless you just want to tank dungeons. They also get a free mount at 40 and a fun quest to get their epic mount at 60.
I think of Warrior as having the most room for growth considering they have the lowest floor and highest ceiling for pve performance in the game.
Can you elaborate on this? Iâve tried pickpocketing in BRD and I just get resisted and die, and even if I donât it doesnât seem particularly lucrative.
Warriors do a bit more damage in raids, but have no threat management like vanish or feint. They die. All. The. Time. In our raids. Once tanks get thunderfury it might get better, but for now our rogues are ahead by 5-15%.
As for pvp they play a lot differently. If you have a healbot warriors geared are going to rotflstomp everyone. Rogues not so much. Rogues however are great at playing defense on flags in ab and wsg. Probably more fun in world pvp, you can pull off some really fun sneaky things. 2v1s are very doable.
