I have 2 game licenses banned for rmt back in dec and I really just made those licenses to take part in that 20th anniversary xp event where everyone was getting half a level by answering a daily quest question in tamari’s.
I was playing many characters and 3 days before these licenses got banned I was in a timewalking dungeon and some rare mount dropped and as a long time wow player I said to myself oh I’ve seen people sell rare mounts for gold.
I didn’t know the rule you could get in trouble or risk of trouble in a unsupported gold trade so the person was in the random LFG dungeon and I don’t know this person cause I que up with randoms and this person didn’t have the 18k wow gold on that character and we exchanged battle tags after the dungeon to do the gold transaction.
3 days later I wake up making my morning coffee getting on my level grind and both licenses got banned for rmt.
I refuse to appeal it any longer but I put a lot of time leveling those licenses and I also paid the blizzard shop to boost two characters on the one license and the 2nd license was only created like 16 days before it got banned so imagine buying the expansion then one month game time and 16 days later banned.
If you look at my armory I always buy everything off the blizzard shop off my credit card (real money from my bank account) from a job I work very hard at.
I’m at the point where sadly I just don’t want to play wow anymore because I think there’s too many mistakes and I have 2 guildies to vouch for me the day I accepted that little bit of gold it wasn’t a whole lot just 18k retail and I didn’t know the game rule about it. It just went over my head and it was just a mistake. I wish the game devs could just work with me better like take18k gold out of my war bank and warm me or a tiny suspension just so I learn my mistake cause I had no intent to just sell 1% drop mounts in random timewalking dungeon.
Going to be frank here; if you’re not going to apply the account action, what would be the point of the post in general? Most of it feels like it’s all over the place with irrelevant info, like the 20th ingame event, or that you brought stuff from the shop, nor your guild members could attest for you.
But to get to the meat of it, if the trade was on current wow, not any of the classic forms of the game, as you brought up the warbank, why didn’t the other player open up the warbank right there to get the gold out? You’d wouldn’t need to trade battle net handlles to do it down the line.
I’ll just say we didn’t think it through. All I remember was this player saying I don’t have the gold let me swap over and I’m like ok and I typed in my btag and that’s how it went down.
To be fair the war bank system at that time was fairly new.
I’m just saying there are times when you play wow and your dopamine levels hit a bit when you get that epic mount or help someone get that epic mount. I’m an avid mount collector so I was a bit too excited at the time to trade someone a rare mount. It was a good feeling and I was just caught in the moment.
It’s a real bummer this happened to me that’s all. It might educate others how not to get 2 game licenses banned as well and also my feelings why I care less about wow nowadays since thieve baa as ns occurred. I played guild wars 2 and I had a blast and that might be my new thing.
My sub is going to expire in less than 3 weeks. I might just take a break and not care about the fomo like I have cared about since 2009
An unsupported transaction is not something you get banned for. What it means is that you engage in it AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Real money trading or participating in the transfer of illicit funds, in any way, has always been against the game rules. For 20 years. What you did was super high risk - you let someone use a low level char to transfer you gold. That is also how gold sellers move money and launder money. Willing or not, you were a part of that which is what got your accounts banned.
They have tried all sorts of things over the years. The only thing that seems to have an impact is to actually suspend or ban accounts.
Do not ever engage with gold sellers in any way
Do not take gold payments from anyone you don’t know or trust. Switching to an alt to give you gold is a big red flag.
Carries/GDKP/or selling loot for gold are all risks you have to think carefully about. Do you want large sums of gold from people you don’t know?
Sort of the difference between hanging out in dark alley ways getting a cheap stereo or buying one at the store. You can do it, at your own risk, but don’t be shocked when you find out you were tied up in moving illicit gold.
They have gotten much better at tracking and tracing it these days.
If you want gold - your best bet is to do the quests/world quests, sell things on the AH*, or buy a token through the Blizzard shop for real money. That is safe at least.
*With regard to the AH, most of that is safe as long as you are not putting up a grey bear butt worth nothing for 1M gold. Those kind of obvious ploys to move gold are well known by the Hacks team.
Never a good idea to deal with any other character than the one you’ve been talking to - and even then be very sure it IS the same character and not just a very close name.
While I cannot be 100% this is how things went down, it is what happens a LOT, and why they’ve gotten more stringent about this.
Player A wants something - says, let me get that to you on my alt.
Player A buys gold and has it delivered to you.
You, Player B received the gold - that’s gold buying even if it wasn’t you directly.
Should it be Player A getting sanctioned? Sure. Can we tell, no - no we cannot. All we can see if you either received gold, or passed gold to an exploitive account. Because that’s actually what happened.
The way to protect yourself from this is just not let it happen. Gold transfers pretty much instantly. Have them send it to themselves and then to you.
This has been reviewed and upheld multiple times. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide going forward.
Some people may say you need “intent” to get a ban and some may say “mistakes happen”.
If you think when I que up on a level 37 hunter (Borohunts-Stormrage) on december 16 2024 for a random timewalking dungeon I had intent to sell a rivendare deathcharger to that particular LFG player well some people in this world will disagree I had intent.
Thanks for all the supportive post and yes I have decided not to buy any more fomo stuff off the blizzard shop any longer but I will be a subscriber.
I used to love to patronize the blizzard shop buying all the items to help support the game but the support I get back does not match up well in return so why be “too kind” when the kindness isn’t returned and on that day my guildie Mechapriest (his main Mechaninja) is a disabled wow player I help with low M+ keys told me “grats!” in the guild chat logs when I got the rivendare deathcharger achievement on Borohunts and I responded to him “I sold dupes meaning I had the mount and yeah I sold that 2nd one” there is me in guild chat confirming I just sold a duplicate mount in game for wow gold so no such rmt happened but a unsupported gold transaction did occur and yes I will own up to my mistake of it being a unsupported gold transactions that “I mistakenly” did for a whole big gold amount of 18k retail gold. I guess banning 2 licenses justifies that mistake. I am just more bummed out because Mecha is a disabled wow player with one hand and struggles in real life and copes with wow to get over his “real life problems” and I can hear it in his voice in discord that he tries to escape his reality with playing wow with one hand and I help him as a tank in low M+ keys and we have him in our raid team and he isn’t the “top 5” dps but we bring him and it really saddened him that he was logged on the day telling me “grats!” and then missing out on a buddy to tank dungeons for him. I believe he got his diabiliity in time serving this country in the armed forces and just imagine serving your country then coming back home with one hand logging on a game having a friend tank dungeons for you so you get a nice vault and really like this person for going out of their way to help you out and poof that person is gone. He got sadder over the months since I have not been logged on to help him with dungeons. Certain things affect certain players and I feel bad for my guildie that has a rough life to a bad time on wow not having his tank friend not around to help him with m+ that season.
Now if you “see” what is really happening is a disabled person in the wow community makes a friend and that friend seemed to be the “only one” reaching out to help this person cause he asked me after raids sometimes “keys?” and I said sure and we went in our dungeon channel and for him to not have that opportunity after raid can really impact his gameplay in a negative way. I wish disabled people had more friends in the game and I think the one button did help him out but still I feel bad for him in this particular case.
Also to the appeal multiple times thing, of course you are going to try to appeal it when it was a unsupported gold transaction and not a rmt one
How much you buy from the shop, or how long you’ve been a subscriber for has never given preferential treatment. It doesn’t exempt anyone for the rules.
What you are doing here is trying very hard to rule lawyer.
I agree but I “unknowingly” did not know the rules or this person. I was not “in on it” with this particular player. There was no “plan” before the dungeon began with this player to say hey random LFG player I am going to give you gold this dungeon 100% on a 1% mount and we are going to que up in LFG group finder and maybe we match up and even though we never exchanged btags before that dungeon and play on different realms…yeah I just don’t see the “intent”.
Trying to fight the gold sellers now they do not need intent.
Someone selling expensive sterio or computer on the corner. Good chance either one is stolen yet if the police find you with stolen goods you still get arrested and jail.
Just sharing my experience so nobody else gets licenses banned for “mistakes”.
My guidlies and I know it wasn’t rmt which happens to be what I got accused of and we all disagree it was rmt but we all agree it was a unsupported gold transaction where I had no intent.
I just want people that read forums to “learn” this because I had to learn this on my own the hard way by getting 2 licenses banned.
