RIP Minneapolis police

Yeah statistics do not back up these claims of widespread brutality. More modern studies show a higher restraint towards using brutality. A lot of decisions by masses are a emotionally based responses, and your politicians desiring to stay in office blindly do whatever they ask to remain popular.

Well if you can’t beat 'em join em, it’s rule by the mob now so may as well just play along with them until they decide to bring in a new police force.

I won’t be rioting and taking other peoples stuff though as I don’t want to create bad karma for myself.

For a country that likes to yammer on about freedom from government you sure all do seem to like being policed by a massively militarised army of a police force. Most countries get on just fine with minimal police forces and even unarmed police forces.

Maybe you should try it before complaining … wait … I just remembered where I am.

A lot of that started when departments stopped letting people work in the neighborhoods they lived in.

Honestly I’d love it if the whole force just said heck with it and left today.

I keep hearing “defund” more than “disband” but both terms are getting thrown around. No idea what the difference is.

Minnesota is going to run head first into a brickwall called the Police Union and those guys are going to hit back hard.

And while that is going on, the MPD is going to see many of their best leave and the city will have a very difficult time recruiting the types of individuals they need to fill those slots.

Nobody wants to work for an employer who doesn’t appreciate you and is willing to throw you under the bus to save their own political skins.

Yeah we need another Buffalo, NY. I would join a club and pay dues to have a police force respond to my calls and the calls of other members only. Let the rest of these people police themselves.

Well, I guess their stance is, if they can’t choke out people without all the fuss, what’s the point?

I hope they had a plan for a system to replace it though, cause a world without jails or any kind of police force is going to get out of control pretty quick. I would think a more moderated police system with more accountability would have done it instead.

Defunding and disbanding police forces will lead to higher crime, business leaving, property values plummeting, loss of jobs, basically another Detroit situation. Rather than knee jerk reactions, look at solutions.

Are they doing that in buffalo now?. LOL I can believe it. I lived in Riverside for a while with no police help ever. We ended up policing our own neighborhood. It was nice having a former force recon guy as a neighbor.

Just one extreme to the other. Be careful what you wish for…

I agree. Instead of defunding the police they should be helping solve poverty and real issues in the inner cities that lead to people turning to drugs, violence, etc.

Well I suppose the past few thousands years of civilization has been a bit of a dark time for humanity sadly.

In Buffalo a protester got in a cop’s face and was shoved to the ground. Him and another was fired. The rest of the 57 person force quit in retaliation.

The issue is that they disbanded them rather than reform.
Reform has worked in the past.

It was an old man who was standing there as they marched forward. They shoved him, he fell, hit his head and began bleeding.
To be fair, standing in front of marching police is unwise.
At the same time, he was an old gentlemen and the stuation should have been handled differently by them.

Honestly the Chief needs to go. He okayed that method of restraint which is obviously dangerous and I’m surprised this is the first death from it. They had 44 people pass out in the last 5 years from using it. Statistically speaking a death was bound to occur.

Who would flag this post? Do people actually think dismantling a police department is a good idea? This isn’t a third world country.

It won’t happen. City council just “said” they would vote for it. No vote has been taken. They still have to deal with the union after that and they would tie it up in court for years.

This is just more political pandering to placate the mob until more jobs come back. Most people will be too busy to care in a little while.

Not sure why anyone is surprised. My guild broke up over looting a long time ago :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
