Riots MMO will be hard competition when it comes out

I still enjoy it for what it is, but the desync/lag keeps me from logging in. Also, those stupid ghost enemies that seem to be everywhere aren’t fun to fight as a bow user. I’m doing some waiting for when they get the systems down, and stop changing things for fun.

Assuming the vaguely mentioned MMO project ever gets finished and released.

Wasn’t new world supposed to be the big new thing? Why will this one be any different than the last dozen wow killers that were a flash in the pan?

Ff14 is built on spaghetti code. They had to remove belts just to help with inventory space….

It’s barely holding onto that title

Didn’t people say the same thing about New World?

They did–and just about every somewhat major mmo release.

That being said, I am curious to see what Riot does with the mmo genre. It’s either going to be really good or really bad.

More likely really bad if the curse of the MMO holds true again.

No it won’t be, they said the same about New World and look how that went.

Where did you get that? They removed belts because it was a “totally wasted slot”. They aren’t visible like other armor pieces are(even accessories are). In compensation for removal of said belt slot, they gave us extra inventory space. Sounds like you don’t even fact check anything, you just spew out hate for ff14. Your the type of people that spread misinformation based on hate bias.

What makes you say that OP?
Riot have shown 0 ability to make a good MMO.

IMO Ashes of Creation has more hype around it, new world was just first.
But yeah. It was a total flop.

How? Riot is known for games that challenge players. WoW hasn’t been a challenge in over 12 years.

By the sounds of it they’re trying to out WoW, WoW… I guess competition is good but no game has been able to out WoW, WoW, except maybe FFXIV.

I’VE BEEN IN THE PLACE BEFORE.
HIGHER ON THE STREET AND I KNOW IT’S MY TIME TO GO.

Riot have done a lot of world-building for the game already. They’ve released a TV show, card game, a single player RPG (with a couple more in the works) and a novel set in the universe. Not to mention a bajillion short stories.

They’re as well positioned to make an MMO. Whether it’s a good one? We’ll have to wait and see.

Considering Riots current track record though (and they’ve got no lack of MMO dev experience, with Ghostcrawler leading the team and Riot poaching like half of Blizzard half a decade ago), if anyone can make an actual new MMO that’s good, it’s gunna be them.

Don’t worry. If ever Ashes of Creation goes out, it will bomb hard too. Forced non-consensual PvP. Enough said.

Thread just reminded me that New World exist.

Anyone still playing?

Oh, I don’t have high hopes either for AoC.
The flying in that game is just a rich get richer feature.
Streamers will just take over servers and turn them to trash.

It might become the new GW2 though, if the PVP happens to be any good.

And Guild Wars 1 and 2.

The only time I ever felt for WoW’s future was when The Old Republic came out. Had just enough hype behind the name and a strong team (Bioware) behind it to fight it. Now I think WoW will die on its own accord and not from competition. MMOs are just so rough to make.

It’s also a systems nightmare. Ion should go to work for them.

Even more than rough to make, they seem very hard to maintain. RIFT nailed the “formula” almost perfectly, but bombed with the terrible first expansion.

Just like New World was am I right

I read it had no content? That’s the thing with so many MMOs. Great ideas, looks great, but very difficult to create long term meaningful content. It’s why Blizzard is so zerod in on time gating and grinds

And conan exiles, and tor, and warhammer, and wildstar, and final fantasy, and guild wars 2, and ESO, lord of the rings etc. etc. etc.
