Right Click Report - Not Going Away

Yes, even humor triggers people. And I went on to keep posting in that thread without issue.

So… system works fine?

Nope. Just proving that you are one of the biggest abusers of the report system so of course you adamantly support it.

And so did ALL the people who misused the report system. Not one of them “punished” as people keep erroneously claiming will happen.

While personally I think RCR shouldn’t remove you from a WSG or DC you, silencing someone because they’re ranting or abusing people in COMM seems perfectly fine to me.

Something like:

  • You report someone, they go on your ignore list for 24 hours.
  • Enough people report someone, they get a silence (no public chat channels, say or yell, but Group works fine) for 3 hours.
  • GM reviews the 3 hour silence cases for further action in slow time.

That seems like a simple enough, and regularly used format which would quieten many of the concerns.

Except that is not what happens. And there is proof it gets abused. There is not a shred of evidence that any abuser gets punished.

Well, its against the ToS to discuss punishments, so maybe those people who were punished are staying silent.

There are stories of stories being told about how someone got mass reported. It’s an outlier to the overall mass of players.

We will need something to combat the gold spam that WILL come. Or the purposefully disruptive people.

Ya boi Asmongold has a famous video of it happening to him.

I have zero issue with a method to silence gold selling spam. I have a huge issue with people (some of them in this very thread) being able and willing to falsely report someone to get them squelched.

With the exception of a very public case of a well known streamer abusing the system.

Blizzard did not really have choice in that case, though. It was too public and too well known that the system was abused.

Blizzard HAD to do something to save face.

My what? I can’t stand him. And anyway, again Twiink, that is an outlier. It is not the norm. It was just a bunch of fearmongering.

As do I.

Well you are talking about the most extreme and specific scenario and not the 1,345,954,394 things that don’t need to be reported. With that said the core basis of my philosophy is still unchanged.

There is an African proverb that reads:
“When there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do you no harm.”

So yes if someone is using a racial slur against you, how you react, is indeed something you need to work on.

Obviously true racism isn’t accepted but most of that is well fixed with ignore and language filter. Now what if someone is joking about racism? Since I think literally you can make a joke about anything because if you can’t then life isn’t that fun. So now a joke should be reported? Since you didn’t find it funny?

Now you don’t get a sense of humor even if it is dark and you feel the need to report it? You see why this function doesn’t work. You see why it is totally up to the person already that has the tools to stop anything with (Ignore, Language filters)

If a joke is in bad taste how you react to it is what is important. You shouldn’t have the right to report it. If you wish to not give that person another chance the ignore feature works. You won’t see it again. If some words offend you the Language feature works as well.

If I am in harmony inside, absolutely nothing anyone says with any words can ever harm me.

Just the way I look at it. However we aren’t talking about the most harsh things that can be said. We are talking about the entitlement that people think because they are triggered or deem it bad that they have the right to report. They don’t, nor should they. EVER!

People are too opinionated and if someone is offended it is still their fault and they can mitigate their offended state by clicking ignore or working on themselves.

And in all those cases what determines racist/homophobic/transphobic is up to the individual players. So, let the individual players handle what they want to see.

“I can say whatever I want and be as offensive as I want without consequence” is some kind of weird modern reflex. When I was growing up, being offensive got you a punch in the mouth, not someone nodding and smiling while seething inside, ready to run off and tweet how horrible you were.

You can say whatever you want, but you will face the consequences. If you post a racist slur, you will be prevented from posting.

This isn’t a Blizzard thing. It’s a modern world thing, because if Blizzard doesn’t take action, they can be sued for supporting those racist views etc. The whole platform/service argument is already breaking down and groups like Facebook are starting to be held accountable for their users unmoderated views.

Blizzard is a company. They have to act in the best interests of not losing money. RCR is inevitable, because of people like you who claim they should be able to say whatever they want, without consequence, because the consequences of not doing something are detrimental to Blizzard.

I am not sure about modern reflex. I grew up before cell phones and internet. I am most likely older than you. With that said I have a lot of life experience and learned to not be offended. Especially in a game that "ISN’T REAL"

When I was growing up most people weren’t offensive because everyone wasn’t such delicate little entitled snowflakes like we have now. So not many people needed to be punched. Then odds are after the punches, if it came to that, you shook hands and ate some food. It was put aside.

This is unfortunate. It’s a game and what people say in game chat has no real world implications. Sorry just don’t take anything being said in a game as real. It’s all make believe. It’s all an act. No one should take what someone says in a game as serious.

I actually think it is good to be able to say anything you want somewhere. No holds bar.

Not sure if Blizzard can be sued because an Orc said a racial slur. They don’t exist. I just can’t be offended by anyone’s actions in game. It’s a make believe world. The words typed in chat have no bearing or actual weight.

You should have grown up in Australia then :stuck_out_tongue:

Firstly, when terror organisations are using video games to communicate, that statement is false. (But not relevant to the discussion.)

Secondly, the online world and online chat is part of the world these days, and online discussion in any arena does have real world implications. Claiming otherwise is a clear indication of not keeping up with the modern world and how people communicate.

I don’t think anyone has ever been banned for an orcish slur.

Yea but on FB what you say is you who is saying it.

In WoW when one of my characters says something it is in “NO” way a representation of myself or views. It’s a fictional character. I look at it as a character in a movie, you role play who you want with each character. At no point are you personally responsible for it. If my character goes on some bizarre tirade in chat, that is his own doing within his personalities. Not mine.

It has no real world implications anymore than a movie actor playing a part in a movie. It is for entertainment.

Heaven forbid you can’t act in a game without them having real life implications. That is why it is called World of Warcraft. Just like what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Well what happens in WoW stays in WoW.

There is no telling what Abomb will say or get into in game. That is up to him, not me.

 Or a russian trollbot.

They have medications to help that, you know.

Do you know how many Actors have received significant implications and even death threats, from playing distasteful characters? Hell, Margot Robbie received genuine death threats for her portrayal of Harley Quinn. That’s right, an actor received real world genuine death threats for her portrayal of a scripted fictional character (whose lines were written by writers, not her).

These are people that don’t understand life and need to work on themselves. So we are back at square one. To have infinite self awareness.

Well fun chat anyways, I got to work. Good luck I do like you and understand your stand point. Just hope you also see mine.

Less moderation is always better and people are too opinionated and dumb to have power over other people with an automated feature.

If someone really triggers you open up a support ticket. Just remove right click as you can choose ignore instead. Honestly it fixes everything. If enough people make support tickets the power called Blizzard will be the judge and jury.

This is how it should be.

Unless you’re going to go door to door, fixing this, Blizzard has to implement some sort of system to control it.

Blizzard did it’s called Ignore and Language filter. That is all the control needed.

Think you miss the point of gaming and fantasy. To play something you are not. If I make a character called Cartman who says racial slurs about Jews and acts just like Cartman. That indeed, would be hilarious. Especially since the WoW, Southpark episode.

If someone found this offensive then they have a poor sense of humor and they can click ignore and let other people enjoy it.

You literally are playing something you are not, acting differently and role playing inside the World of Warcraft. Heck it was even promoted in the old WoW commercials.

“You can be anyone you want”

My final statement on this. Have a great day, cyas.
