Right Click Report - Not Going Away

Why do you keep throwing the word anarchy around? If you don’t like what someone says, put them on ignore. I’m MORE than happy to have a poll of people who want right click reporting vs people who think you should just use ignore, if you really think you’re in the majority. The funny thing is, with the ignore feature, you can communicate on public channels perfectly fine.
Seems a bit authoritarian not to be able to give people the right to choose what speech they see. I guess that’s why you are so adamant that an objectively inferior and abusable mechanism for controlling what kinds of speech you are subjected to is the one that should be used.

RCR places a temporary ignore on the player. The thing that everyone gets upset about is the auto-squelch after RCR is put on a player by more than X amount of players.

The old way of using ignore had a limited number of ignore slots, and was pretty ineffective when under the deluge of dozens of spammers all at once.

RCR fills in the gap for a limited number of Customer Service Reps to allow people to ignore for a short time, and build up enough reports to warrant the attention and action of a CSR. Instead of using an addon like InfiniteIgnore (which is effective), there’s now something baked into the core UI so everyone has this ability.

The issue is the “auto-squelch” after so many RCRs.

Pro-RCR, anti-auto-squelch.

Sorry, this isn’t the public square. The government isn’t infringing on your rights when a private company silences a racist/homophobic/transphobic person spouting hate in /2

The vast majority of players likely are oblivious to the system having been in game since 2007, and would not bother with your poll as it never effected them in any way.

That is why we have these things called “channels”, where people can choose what speech they see. Apparently you are against making your own channels for speech you want to see that does not belong in other topic specific channels.

Channels are the mechanism for choosing what you see. You just do not seem to grasp the concept.

And you don’t seem to grasp the concept that just ignoring people is simpler and doesn’t have a negative effect on anybody. If someone is making me laugh in general chat but it’s a bit too risque for you, then I might not be able to enjoy it because you come in and report them hoping for a ban.
And again you talk about “the vast majority” as if you are all knowing. Scared of the outcome of a poll?

Sticks and stones.

Something anyone over 30 was raised on.

These days people are offended by everything.
…like simple biology.

It’s the youngins man. All they care about is being the only one able to speak for everyone in the name of equality. Truth is people just need to grow a pair, speak for themselves, and not give a crap about other peoples business.

Don’t like it, don’t read it.

Anywho I really gotta stop stalling and catch some sleep. Hope yall had a good 4th yesterday.

How difficult is it for you to make a channel to see whatever you want? Why do you feel you have an inherent freedom to post whatever you want, wherever you want, and people should have to be inconvenienced by you and everyone responding to you there? Even if the inconvenience is taking time to rcr or ignore?

Tell me about it. How are we supposed to work with an EULA that says something as vague as:
Harassment, “griefing,” abusive behavior or chat, conduct intended to unreasonably undermine or disrupt the Game experiences of others, deliberate inactivity or disconnecting, and/or any other activity which violates Blizzard’s Code of Conduct or In-Game Policies.

On top of that, I feel like if my shoe laces aren’t tied correctly this guy will report me because it’s a must have feature for him.

Dammit one more thing before I go.

“Ryzix you are a ******* (homophobic slur) ***** *** **** bag.”

This is me not caring. -_-

Wow that was hard. Took real effort for me to not find a safe place and call my therapist. LOL. Peace folks.

That’s about where I am, too.

Less about the potential for in-game abuse (though I’m sure that exists and may happen) than about arguments breaking out and the majority silencing the minority through auto-squelch (or even both groups silencing each other I suppose). Whether it be about politics, Chuck Norris, whether ret paladins are viable, or what the leeway range was in vanilla. People really like to silence each other where that is possible and I don’t see Blizz enabling that as being a good thing.

Reporting is already abused and the abusers do not get punished. Here is an example (and notice who the very first person is to respond, coincidence?)

Yeah, that would be the kind of thing I mean, obviously this “Asmongold” guy gets on a lot of people’s nerves, so some guy knows he can trigger people by bringing him up, does so, and they swing their little banhammers. However, at least that only hides the original post and apparently doesn’t silence the OP since he went on responding.

Now if everyone who liked the OP was to do the same to the people who responded negatively, we could get a nice little empty thread going lol.

Plus the poster on that thread is an unrepentant troll. Even if the content was fine in and of itself, apparently enough people were triggered by him talking about contentious subjects.

White Knighting Saqe? Really scraping the bottom of the barrel with that one. Good grief.

That’s a real shame. The reporting feature has never been needed in this game or any game. There just isn’t anything worth really reporting. Now in a time where anyone can be offended by just the wind blowing. They can report for no reason at all, just on the basis that their feathers were ruffled. If you if you feel you have a good reason to report someone, “YOU REALLY DON’T”

If you get offended in a game or IRL realize that is your fault. You should thank the person for offending you and revealing something you need to work on so you don’t get offended.

People often get that wrong and feel if they are offended, there is some entitlement that the other persons actions are wrong and need to be changed. When in fact they should be looking in the mirror.

There are great features in place if you can’t handle someone called ignore. If you feel someone is Toxic that again is “YOUR” opinion. A player doesn’t get to decide what is considered Toxic. This is why reporting features don’t work and never will.

An easily manipulated reporting feature is the first thing to ruin any great game, when other features (ignore, language filters) accomplish the same result and then everyone gets to have fun.

If what I said bothers you, great!! Thank me, for now it’s time for you to work on yourself so it won’t bother you anymore and you can live a more peaceful fulfilling life.

Your welcome, Have a great day!

The ability to determine right from wrong requires offense to exist. If it doesn’t bother you, then it wasn’t wrong.

If someone is using racist slurs against you, this isn’t something you need to “work on”.

If you want to look back at history, you should consider this poem:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

LOL. The exact same happened to you in your final post thread. Are you an unrepentant troll?
