Because they aren’t named and shamed. Name the people who abuse systems, and let everyone know they are abusing systems. Especially in classic, where community is important, this will turn abusers into pariahs.
Weird that guilds are pushing for world first mythic Azshara currently and They also stream it to thousands of people. You would think that is RCR is working as explained by many posts it would be easy to have other guilds mass report Method? Since there is money involved competitors would prob invest in some shady Chinese site to try and get other guilds suspended?
So strange we don’t see these posts all over retail if its that big of an issue?
You’re going to be told that streamers can’t be reported. The next thread over, people are going to use Asmongold and Savix being punished as examples of the abuse that goes on, especially against streamers.
exactly. This entire thing is overblown by a bunch of youtubers clickbaiting players who dont understand that Blizzard Probably thought about this when implementing The system of right click report. Maybe there are internal rules that stop abuse from happening lol.
If auto-squelch is in the game still, then this is a fail.
Getting squelched because you said something unpopular (even if it was perfectly within the ToU) in general chat is not okay in classic. Communication is key in this game. It’s not retail where a squelch is essentially a non-punishment to begin with.
It doesn’t need to be a coordinated attack. Anyone can be targeted by group-think, and it’d be almost impossible for a GM to hand out punishments to those who did the reporting because it was NOT a concerted effort.
I would not. On the contrary, if only game-related communication were allowed in channels like “general”, the game would be much worse off.
All communication is important to Classic, provided it falls within the ToU. The social dynamics of this game, which are arguably more important than any one other aspect of the game, should not be held hostage like this.
I specifically wrote “remain usable for”, not “restricted to”.
If your carefully choreographed performance in a public channel or its responding audience are hampering game related correspondence, it’s an issue.
I agree, therefore if you want to act as an entertainer or treat a channel like your stage, commentary outlet, newsdesk or chat room, create one for that use without disrupting the communication of everyone else.
Except that the joys of Chuck Norris jokes, Did someone say [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker]?, anal [Backstab], and other such banter is part and parcel of the SOUL of the communities in Vanilla/BC/Wrath. It is part of what made the game what it was.

Yes, but as whiners up the thread have stated, people having fun bantering in Trade Chat pushes off their oh so important missives about needing a guy for SFK, and that simply can’t wait the few minutes it usually takes for things to quiet down.
What you’re saying is a non-sequitur. Either you want general chat to remain open to everyone to converse as they normally would, or you don’t.
Furthermore, I never said anything about a “carefully choreographed performance”. I’m talking about getting squelched for saying something controversial (albeit within the ToU) and getting squelched for it because a dozen people in The Barrens disagreed with you and, for whatever reason, decided to report you for trolling.
Or saying something that someone doesn’t like, so they get their whole guild to report you at once like this guy. Sure, maybe they get in trouble. Maybe they don’t. What does it matter if you’ve spent the last several hours/days unjustly squelched?
I should be able to go anywhere I want and say whatever I want so long as I’m not breaking the rules.
If RP servers have rules to further expand upon disallowed chat subject matter, fine. I’m not saying “change the rules”.
I don’t usually go for mob moderation because I feel like it’s just ripe for abuse by the same scummy people who it’s intended to target.
Meh though on this, I don’t think it’s a necessary evil by any stretch since /ignore has worked just fine up until now. I guess if you’re annoying or offensive enough to get reported by what? 30 people in general? Not sure how many it takes to get flagged… there’s a really good chance you deserved it.
I think streamer culture and WoW are a bad mix so who knows what these private armies will do. Particularly the ones who have a rep for being goonsquad’esque
