Returning to wow post disability

Hi,

I used to play and loved it. My main was hunter and feral/resto druid.

I can no longer use my right (dominant) hand but have bought an azeron cyro and foot pedals.

What class would be playable at a reasonable level such as normal raids (maybe heroic) with 1 hand.

Should i play retail or classic. I have plenty of time.

Thank you

Classic might be a better fit (and very fun). Mutilate rogue on classic is strong and the rotation can probably be done on one hand.

For retail raiding, destro lock might be the closest, or maybe disc priest if you only bind Radiance → mindbender → smite x 13 (with current tier set) and repeat. If you can also fit penance in there that would be even better

Update: I made a four button disc build with this thread in mind

Welcome back and sorry for your disability

I feel like bm hunter has the easiest rotation, even for m+

Reminds me of that guy who got Keystone Hero or something, he was 1-handed as well, had some macros or other tricks he used to get there.

There’s also entirely deaf guilds that have cleared Mythic.

I love that folks are able to overcome disabilities and play as the game as well as anyone else.

You can do it, OP.

I’ve got a somewhat of a handicap too,(Epilepsy) but it’s nothing that’s ever got in the way of my gaming, at least not yet.

Lol I doubt anything aside from death itself would keep me away from gaming.

I hope everybody is having a great day.

Honestly you can probably clear 1 heroic with 1 hand on majority of classes

Maybe harder on like DH cuz mobility dashes n stuff, but also basically be free on hunter

Understand having to adjust to a disability myself. You can buy a gaming mouse with buttons on the side you can bind your abilities to. This helps me play using one hand. My other hand is prone to shaking and muscle spasms. As for class, Marksman hunter, or Beast master if you prefer, can be a good one as it is a fairly easy to pick up ranged class so you can stay out of most of the melee mechanics. And can give a more relaxed feel for most, not all, encounters.

I wish you well with adjusting and hope you are able to find your place in WoW even with whatever limitations you may have.

Super happy you’re coming back and working around your disability. I’m sorry you HAVE a disability, but welcome back anyway

I’d suggest:

BM hunter – might be easier to manage a ranged class
DH - (there are alternate builds that are low movement based, and those might be easier to deal with. they aren’t meta builds, of course, but they’re out there.)

i have it too, and i cant do anything high end, i still freeze sometimes just doing random things like questing. i think lfr is about the highest thing i can do comfortably and not mess up anything for anyone else.

I know people who have 0 key bindings and click everything with their mouse who still manage to get some mythic raid bosses down.

The sky is the limit.

I’d imagine ranged would be easier. BM hunter being easiest.

This is a great post, thanks for sharing that link and the encouragement! I’ve got Rheumatoid Arthritis and there are days where I can’t use my left hand. Thankfully for me, my Logitech G600 helps me out a lot. I will fumble my way through any class in retail with that!

Balance druid might be a spec to consider as well! A lot of damage and enjoyment come out of auto procs as they cast their builder and spender.

Just recently having 1/2 my ring finger and 3/4 my pinky on my mouse dominate hand on the January 10th, 2024, it definitely can be challenging to get back into the thrill of things. Tomorrow will be my 1st day I get to look at the amputations as they have been bandaged this entire time.

I know I need a new mouse other than my Death Adder Mini that would work better with my hand but those are costly for me atm. I have also never had key binds or macros as I am mostly a clicker so have usually only had two-button mice. It’s like today’s gaming controllers are too complicated for me but give me an old Nintendo controller and I’m fine.

I currently still main my Enhancement Shaman and main backup my Protection Warrior. Other than some mis-clicks because my hand at times has a mind of its own, I seem to be doing fine. Just can’t do the Outland Dragon racing because of motor control issues.

Hunter - beast master - you need very few button clicks to do max dps

Beast master hunter.
You should only require 1 foot pedal as their rotation is:
W to move forward
Foot pedal x 10

Hey, my buddy lost his non-dominate hand and manages to play WoW (at least classic) with little problem.

He uses foot peddles. Mouses with a ton of extra buttons. But even then there are several abilities he has to hard-click.

You can also explore macros. Heck, I hear elemental shaman can be played one-button with the right macro.

There are all kinds of new one handed gaming keyboard on the market…I think you can buy either side right or left with many of them…that is a big help for lose of use of one hand now…

Thank you everyone for the encouragement. Once my new mouse arrives I’m going to have a crack as a BM Hunter. I’m very excited to return to wow.

Does the cryo got you covered for camera manipulation?

If it does then you could play around with the new targeting setting that just targets whatever you’re facing. I forget what the setting is called called.

Id probably try something with fewer buttons in the rotation like BM or frost DK for starters until you work out the kinks.

Classic might be your fallback since it has simpler rotations and lower APM.

Once you find a setup that works for you share it on the forums, it might be a good starting point for others in your situation.
