Returning To MoP?

Sup all. I haven’t played since launch of mop and even then quit halfway through p1. Would it be a waste of time to try to max a character and gear up in time to run SoO? It’s so late in the expansion wasn’t sure if guilds even still recruited lol.

It’s not that late in the expansion. We are less than 2/3rds of the way through the expansion. And gearing is very quick. The only thing that takes a while is the legendary chain. There will certainly be guilds recruiting for SoO.

Plenty of guilds - plenty of people at the lower levels. How many are active at the high-end I have no idea but you can get to maximum level quite fast - we have a 50% xp bonus going for the rest of this phase.

I agree with the previous respondents. Even though no one seems to know what’s going to happen after MoP, there’s plenty of time to level and the best raid of the xpac is on deck. I can’t speak for the (nasty) horde side, but I’m seeing plenty of (admirable) Alliance groups looking for raiders, and that’s going to jump when SoO nears.

If you were to cap a toon between now and right before the SoO patch- it would be the most optimal time (cus joyous journeys buff).
When the next patch hits, it will be the best time if capped already.
When the SoO patch hits, if you just capped a toon - you can start the legendary cloak quest and have the most optimal means of expediting the quest chain to completion.
As it stands right now, it takes about a full 24 hours to complete the collect-a-thon for chapters 1-3. Chapter 4 and chapter 5 are free af. It’s just 1-3 that suck.
The cloak is basically mandatory as its a passive proc of burst dps thats kinda nutty. (proc healing/cheatdeath otherwise)
Also the meta gems from the chain are decent too.
Because it’s so good, its chore for any alt or new comer to have in a raid environment.
Each raid content patch reduced the legendary catchup cost- celestial dungeons drop lfr variants of current raid gear, stones, and give you buffs to perform your role with ease no matter your ilvl.

Chapter 1: Black prince rep (honored), Collect Sigil of power (10), Sigil of wisdom (10), Heart of Dread (1).
^The drop rates of power and wisdom were made so both can drop per celestial dungeon. Likely to receive another bump in drop%. Can be bought w/ 30 stone fragments each.

Chapter 2: Black prince rep (revered), Complete Faction specific Krasarang invasion chain, Gain 1600 Valor, Participate in Temple of Kotmogu and Silvershard Mines pvp queues, Kill a faction guy in krasarang.
^2 things suck here- 1. if you capped valor - you’re sol for the week as you can’t ‘gain’ past the cap, depends if valor resets with the patch. 2. BG queues take 40 minutes a pop unless you annoy your guild or lfg to queue.

Chapter 3: Black prince rep (exalted), Complete 5 Faction specific assault scenarios on the isle of thunder, Collect Secrets of the Empire (20) & purchase/make 40 Trillium bars, Complete Wrathion’s scenario on the Isle of Thunder, Yeet a spear at the world boss and run around for a minute, choose a meta gem reward, Collect Titan Runestones (12), Collect Heart of the Thunder King (1).
^good and bad things here- The 5 IoT scenarios in total take around an hour. SotE (20) are dirt cheap at 10 stones a pop also drop very often. 40 trillium is being craft savvy with ghost iron transmutes etc. Wrathion’s scenario is 20 minutes, unless you fail/bug out the end then its 40. Titan Runestones have a 30-50% drop chance or cost 30 stones per. Heart is 70 stones.

Chapter 4 & 5 are free and easy. You go to the 4 celestial temples on pandaria and do 1 challenge at whatever role you play (melee, ranged, tank, healer). The tank and healer challenges are the same, you keep wrathion alive through difference means. Melee and ranged challenges at the same, you ‘defeat’ wrathion but slapping him across an arena.
Bam. Base cloak.
Chapter 5, go to the timeless isle, do a quest chain, beat up the 4 world bosses, enjoy the legendary cloak.

The upside is the stones are on a scaling system P1 stones A, P3 stones B, P5 stones C.
Each new tier of stones (and we will be getting C) halfs the cost the previous pricing so… the purchaseables on the cloak quest will be halved again :].
If coming back today, you can work on the chain and get up to 502 ilvl in 5 mans.
If coming back when SoO launches:
If you’re coming back with a capped toon, you pick up where you left off with less to catch up.
If you are level 1 fresh, once you cap the timeless isle can kit you out from lootable chests for 500-535 gear, and then there is the legendary cloak chore list but once its done you are set. And its likely way less than the previous 24 hours.

TBH I wouldn’t care if blizz put in an auto complete feature for chapters 1-3 to make joining in be more appealing.

That is an outstanding post!
