I played for many moons but have been gone for probably 5+ years now. I resubbed to get a look at the current state of the game.
I feel absolutely broken logging in and seeing some of my characters, that I worked hard to accomplish one thing or another on, squished down to an unrecognizable level. At this point I don’t even remember what level many of my characters were. Since I only recognize the quick Wikipedia facts about WoD and garrisons, I will presume at least one or more was Level 100. But not knowing is a strange feeling. And I feel like something has been taken from me. This was my druid and it was my accomplishment to get the character to that state, Blizzard.
The game has changed enough now, with strange new mechanics continuing to be layered upon the old ones, that I just can’t look at it as some new complete functioning whole. It will always feel like the old WoW, but broken and glued back together again and again. As a result, it’s difficult to justify maintaining a sub for anything other than for Classic WotLK. I just don’t have time anymore to learn someone’s temporary new system that will be gutted by the next expansion and replaced by something else.
My design goal I think, if I were to create an MMO in another universe, would be to plan out these expansions and levels and follow that plan. And keep the lights on for returning players so they can pick up where they left off, and not feel like their characters and work have been destroyed. And focus on tuning systems and balance and content rather than continually rebuilding the game so that it’s no longer the same game.
I hate to break it to you but even though we put a lot of time and effort into these characters, Blizz still owns them and we only have them until they decide to shut down the servers one day.
Tbh, if you are just coming back then you haven’t been around to see them treat the player base more and more poorly as well as to trim staff and outsource or community source moderation. It’s been pretty sad to watch over the years, so I absolutely can relate to your dismay upon returning.
Imo. The level squish was the worst thing they did to the game. It shows they have no respect for progression, it messed up scaling, it didn’t fix empty levels. Now we’re leveling back up 10 per expansion and we’ll be squished again soon!
Dont act obtuse no one was talking about numbered achievement in game were talking about achievement/accomplishments like all the stuff theyve done and things theyve acquired not some stupid useless window in game go away
Agreed it completely messed up scaling and progression, way too much broken and for what? We get some abilities and talents way later than we did before if you actually look at what levels you got stuff previously, and that includes fast flying.
Rumor was that by squishing, because 130 was to intimidating a number to new players. Don’t know about you, but 130 is scary And where are all these new players at that this level squish was supposed to bring lol. My guess we will be getting another big item level squish in a couple years also.
Har har what a dumb response knowing people play both but your always acting like a jerk and making dumb comments and you still didnt comprehend what i said not surprising bye
When you are the one who went out of their way to go after me for no reason and couldnt handle my reply. You are the one throwing out insults here, not me.
And you dont get the point I was trying to make about OP not being able to get the 120 achieve. OP can never ever get it no matter what. Even though they will spend just as much time as everyone else who did get it. And how are you saying i created this? You went out of your way to reply to me.
Thank god. Youve said that to me before. Really hope you mean it this time.
Your personal hang-ups about an arbitrary number on a character sheet aren’t nearly as important as the reality of managing hundreds of skills across dozens of specs, while trying to give players something new/interesting whenever an expansion rolls around. Sorry.
Literally untrue as it gets. Levels got squished along with stats but so did the rest of the world too. Things they “took away” would have been gone even if your level was eleventy bajillion. That’s the nature of an ever-evolving MMO. Most of the things “taken away” were given back or merged into other abilities. For example, my DK doesn’t have to do any hokey rune manipulation because arbitrary abilities use arbitrary runes. Now abilities just cost 1-2 runes and I got 6 that I can use. No “oops I orphaned a frost tune” or nonsense.
There was also a technical reason for the 1st squish. Quite simply, the game had reached the literal maximum values it could hold for numbers and while there is an architectural fix, a perfectly fine/valid bandaid is to squish the numbers down to buy time for a more robust architectural solution. The 2nd squish was more to do with the sheer perception that new/returning players were too overwhelmed at the prospect of needing to go 120 levels to catch up to their friends even though it took the same relative time to go from 1-120 than it is 1-60.
Nothing is wrong with the squishes besides player perception.
Coming back after 5 years. Was a shock to the system I had every class lvled to 100 on both factions. I just started over made a new priest. Leveling was a huge boring slog. 1-50 Every lvl was 1 stam and 1 man stat. It was so boring I almost didnt make it. The only way I made it I gave them 146$ and I wasnt letting them have it for free and quit. I dont see New players ever staying in this game and I cant get friends to come back. All of them are over it.
