Uh, not really.
He’s now chilling with the Vampire dudes and he’s been quiet ever since.
It’s pretty much a story of me swapping covenants one time ever.
Never doing that again.

Dude they could take a dump in your hand and you would clap for them
why not just make it baseline so we can making a MEANINGFUL choice to choose the covenant for the gameplay we’re currently interested in doing.
or just remove the whole dumb system and let us change at will
Funny that Blizz has gone to great lengths to ensure that your choice of Horde or Alliance for the same class is largely cosmetic – ignoring racials, a tauren paladin plays the same as a human paladin, goes to the same order hall, etc. But the devs are so entrenched in this idea that the Shadowlands covenants are different, that they offer distinctly different things beyond where your main hub is, that if Blizz designed Horde and Alliance that way from the start, it’d be almost a poetic symbology of how mortals, immortals, gods, you-name-it always fight. But they didn’t go that route, and it doesn’t make sense.
I completely agree about frustration with the Betrayer thing, but I didn’t even get that far. I hit a low point a few weeks back wondering where to put my destro lock: night fae for the powers, or Venthyr for the theme? I talked to the Venthyr dude in Oribos, but being shamed for asking about another covenant was just rather unpleasant. I just left her there, and started farming old Wrath content for mogs and mounts. I was amazed at how different the story philosophy was in 2008.
Hotfix them to be irrelevant. That’s a good start.
just #pulltheripcord already. i went with fire and night fae in 9.0. i maxed out my sanctum because there was nothing else to do in 9.0 and now, after your stupid nerfs to fire, it looks like kyrian and arcane is going to be the top spec.
in previous expansions, yea, specs would flip flop which one was on top, but you didn’t lose literal months of progress just to change a spec.
if it turns out that fire is garbage in raid and i have switch to kyrian / arcane just remain competitive, then i’ll just unsub and uninstall because its obvious you dont care about the players time, just their time played.
Maybe they even came to respect the Maw Walkers help and allow them to freely swap between the covenants to best support them in defending their existence…
Maybe they came to respect the Maw Walkers time and stopped making them grind a hamster wheel for 2 weeks to “re-earn” trust that didn’t ever need to be interpretted as being broken in the first place.
No, this isn’t a ripcord thing.
What does a pair of ancient factions from over a decade ago have to do with covenants now?
Be nice if they pulled the ripcord, or at least balanced abilities better.
Switched to Kyrian finally and blitzed through the kyrian covenant questlines and couldn’t tell you a single thing about them, didn’t even have enough interest in it to watch the cutscenes. Can’t imagine I’m the only one who did this after joining a covenant they couldn’t care for except for the ability. Kinda kills the whole attached to your covenant thing.
This is what pulling the ripcord actually means, removing the penalties between swapping Covenants.
The only difference between tugging it and pulling it is that this change doesn’t last forever.
You see: Picking one of two factions which actively despise each other and offer rewards that boil down to a couple profession patterns and some gear that gets replaced pretty easily is exactly like being locked into a Covenant because factions which have been allies since like the dawn of time won’t let you play around with spec-defining abilities that often dictate your characters viability in Raiding, M+ or PvP.
Can I just have Bobby, J Allen, or Ion come to my house and spit on me?
Because that sounds way more enjoyable than Covenants.
This is stupid. Remove restrictions in the way of freely swapping covenants. Your expansion is absolute garbage and this is the number one reason.
Presumably the covenants are totally down with the bizarre human MMO game design concept of “seasons” and are preparing their “Eternal Battle Pass” to make sure they get the most out of players.
Renown is covenant specific. In other words, if you hit Renown 42 this week already, your covenant will keep it. If you swap, you will still be renown 42 if you ever come back. The new covenant will be at whatever Renown you left it at.
Example: Shadina here is Renown 42 with Venthyr. If I go Kyrian, I will be back at Renown 0 because I have never done anything for the Kyrian. If I then come back 3 weeks later, Venthyr will still be Renown 42.
Yeah, this isn’t happening. So, this doesn’t have anything to do with the ripcord.
Blizzard is making fun of us.
Betrayer status was a dumb idea to begin with. There’s no lore based reason for it. Aren’t we all fighting the Jailer together? Who exactly is being betrayed? Honestly, it feels like an artificial obstacle thrown into the game by a petulant dev who was salty that players so soundly rejected the “meaningful choice “ nonsense that was thrown around as a justification for making covenants permanent. As usual, instead of giving players the system they asked for, they’re responding with a needless compromise that is technically a fix but practically broken nonetheless. Thanks for nothing.
I see that hand on the ripcord. Pull it. This change hits a symptom not the problem itself, solve the problem, let the game be good.
Hol’ up.
That seemed like more than one time.
