I assume it’s a gear issue. Lvl 37 Arcane Mage. I can usually get 2 - 3 KBs per match and my cc is effective but Hunters, Demon Hunters, Rogues, and Warriors are 2- and 3-shotting me. For example, my Prismatic Barrier offers virtually zero protection against melee, arrows, daggers, etc. The win rewards (when I get them) don’t offer significant improvements. Where do I acquire better gear or do I suffer until endgame, then grind for gear?
Sorry if these are really basic questions but I haven’t played in years and much has changed (and yet, much hasn’t).
For example, just finished a Silvershard Mines and two Horde Rogues were climbing into our base (Shadowstep? Not sure how.) and attacking us as we resurrected.
This is a pretty terrible experience for everyone on the losing side. Sorry I bought the 6-month subscription. Should have bought the 1-month, was reminded of why I quit the game, then not renew.
Yeah, just inspected a fellow Mage and he’s in purple Honor(?) gear and doing much better than I. I’ll try to stick it out for a bit and see if I can’t improve. I’m not sure where to get the gear but will investigate.
You’re right, of course. Not much point in staying until endgame just to get stomped there/then. Thank you.
If you gear like me you should be fine aside from bad matchmakings. You should post on your char and check out xpoff .com (without the space) for what type of gear and enchants you should use. Stick with the healer, you’re their peeler if you’re an undergeared mage. It’s the difference between being a cannon and artillery.
Not sure how much gear will matter when it comes to your survival in general. I remember leveling a mage… went frost. If frost interests you, you might find it’s a little better because of the roots and slows it has against melee.
Arcane generally does well in lower levels as they have good kicks and burst. They’re pretty common, you get a couple of them focusing and alternating kicks and you can kill a healer like me (not that it’s that hard, cries in mistweaver).
I exaggerate, Tess would be awesome if I could queue her as dps and just off heal and steal KBs.
Mage isn’t new player friendly at all. And considering the gear disparity, and the lack of present day experience on your end, you’ll surely have a hard time.
If you’re a pro gamer, mage is an amazing class, but if you’re not, you’ll struggle achieving much of anything without using a bunch of addons to keep track of every opponent abilities, diminish returns, etc.
You gotta bait your opponents into interrupting the wrong category of spell to cast the spells you actually want to cast. Meanwhile, a warrior or a monk will just press buttons against you without a care in the world, and delete you at any mistake you’ll make.
Thanks for all your helpful comments. I’ve upgraded my gear a bit as well as have a bit more practice. Against random PUGs, I’m doing fine. Against pre-mades, it’s hell but that’s to be expected.
If you get 2 bad matches like that in a row take a break and do something else. I’m glad you stuck to it, a lot of casual PvPers are choosing low level PvP due to gearing and grind issues at max level so it’s surprisingly competitive.
