Its called Wrath of the Lich King.
Your TBC ret dreams are just as distant as they are in Classic.

Bro there are gonna be tons and tons of rets all over Classic TBC, whether they are good or not.
Just like in Classic you enter a random bg as alliance and you see pally in your bg-- it’s like 75% chance its a ret.
Some guilds will shun them yea. Most guilds will have 1-2 on their raid team.
Shun? No min max guild won’t have a ret. The problem isn’t ret isn’t good. Its that it isn’t worth stacking. Everything that makes them good one ret brings.
So obviously if too many go ret there won’t be enough spots. But it isn’t even a question about bringing one if your min maxxing.
Rets, and the healing class’ DPS specs in general, usually offer enough utility in TBC to warrant some raid spots going to them.
It’s just that as Spongy said: They’re not really worth stacking.
Yea, shun was the word I used.
Yes, all raid teams will have 1 ret. Some might have 2-3 just because of the sheer volume of fembelf glittery ret rerolls we’ll see literally everywhere.
But yea the speedclears will bring only one at max, and shun the others. But I don’t believe that very many players are super interested in teams with 10+ hunters, 4-5 locks, etc.
I could be wrong about how prevalent speedclear meta will be. I even wrote a post about it yesterday asking others what their own thoughts/plans were concerning this.
[Edit: here is my post from yesterday where I tried to start discussion on the mattter. Would love any thoughtful responses: Thoughts on TBC-style guilds]
Well I mean we agree, even you said most will bring 1.
I was just pointing out the simply false narrative going around acting like rets are trash. Even for speed clears youd want them.
But again its people (not saying you) don’t seem to understand what they bring. 3% crit is good. 2% dmg is nice. Blessing is nice… But in reality its their ability to refresh all judgments on the boss that make one ret mandatory. See how much less dps hunters do when they don’t have 100% uptime on wisdom. Its huge.
But for the rets who get excited reading this… remember it only takes one ret to bring all of this utility. 2 rets bring nothing more than 1. That’s why they aren’t stacked. But as an individual a ret is more important than say an arms warrior. Its actually dumb how much one brings… but again it only takes 1 and the rest bring nothing but their personal dps. And at that point you’d rather bring something else that either offers more dps or utility.
They’re going to be better DPS than Rogues and Warriors for a while. The good rets anyways.
Big difference between stacking and bringing 1.
They will have 1.
Ret is also better than rogue and warriors for awhile as we have 2.4.3 and in 2.2 ret was buffed.
Well that’s why I said they wont be stacked.
Raids will want to fill out any slots that only care about DPS with Hunters and Warlocks ideally.
but there will be room for a Ret Paladin even in an optimized raid. I’d consider playing one myself if I wasn’t going to be blood elf ret paladin #8903248092340923 since I’ll be playing Horde in TBC.
I think you’re high on your own supply, because Ret is actually good in TBC, it was good in 2.3 in TBC because of some really badly needed changes.
Also Wrath… that’s a completely different game play, and some serious training wheels were installed on Ret and numerous other classes because kids cant play good without.
I also agree that we agree. ![]()
Yep.
And from my spot here at my desk, I’ve already seen tons of these posts trying to flame ret wannabes like “haha you still won’t have a spot!” or something. And that’s probably true.
But for most of us we’ll have the situation where we need to recruit a person, and all we get are 12 more ret applications. So many many teams will in fact have more than one ret, just because of their sheer population.
And also for most of us, whether we kill the boss or not kill will have no bearing on that one ret being there or not.
Yea, its not ideal. But also I’ve 16manned Onyxia which was not an ideal raid comp for parsing.
Speak for yourself. I am the designated Ret for our raid group in TBC lol
Just because you couldn’t get Ret to work doesn’t mean Ret is bad
Not to worry, you’re already #8903248092340923 alliance rerolling to Horde for TBC. Might as well play what you want. ![]()
I imagine I’ll have a Paladin at some point or another, but I’m thinking of actually going Ele or Enh Shaman instead.
I am also currently leveling a Troll Hunter on Classic.
You can’t really stack much at all tbh
(3) Tanks: warrior and pally and druid, druid DPS on most fights
(6) healers of various spec, a MT healer paladin, 3 sham raid healers, a priest and a druid
(1) Mana battery
(1) enhance meme
(1) ele sham to round out 5 shaman for lust.
(1) rogue because loot needs a place
(1) ret meme
(2) locks
(2) mages
(2) hunters
(1) boom chicken
That’s 21 slots right there, which leaves a total of 4, so let’s say they grab an extra of each ranged for a total of 3, you now have 1 slot left.
An arms warrior?
I don’t see much stacking.
What about Prot Paladin? Are they any better? D:
Well said.
The only thing you’re really stacking is shamans
Ret > most things.
Oh look, someone who doesn’t know any better.
