Retail Won't Update

We’re having problems transferring data. Please check your internet connection and try again. Along with a tag from 3 years ago.

Followed all the instructions. Even uninstalled the whole game.

Now I can’t even install retail…but classic installs with no issue…

Any suggestions Blizzard?!?

Exact same problem here.

Same problem happening for me too.

For what it’s worth, the MacOS folder inside of the retail World Of Warcraft.app is empty - the executable is missing, so the app can’t be run by double clicking on it either. Something definitely got screwed up. Repair gives the same error as Update does ( BLZBNTAGT000008A4) after performing the scan.

All looking at the logs, there is a folder and key ring file missing. Of course I got the canned message from Blizz. In tact.log I got yesterday
12/13 06:45:46.055 Downloading config with key 3ca57fe7319a297346440e4d2a03a0cd. Existing file is missing or invalid.

Today I get in the AgentNGDP log
Failed to fetch key ring file. url=tpr/wow/config/3c/a5/3ca57fe7319a297346440e4d2a03a0cd

There is no folder a5 folder in folder 3c therefore no key ring was downloaded.

It is working now. They fixed the key ring issue.

Thanks for the update Reddhott. It still doesn’t work for me but I didn’t get the key ring error that I’m aware of. I do get a quick “another update is in progress” message, then it disappears, and then it tries and fails with the same check-your-internet-problem-transferring data error.

Same problem here, only affects retail. Classic, PTR, beta, etc all unaffected.Fixed with reinstall of Battle.net app, but recurred after quitting for the night.

Uhm, yeah, no. Not working here. Exact same error in log file.

Still no change…nothing recommended is working…everything else is just fine…Retail in the only issue…on multiple machines in our home…this is not a home issue…it must be a Mac/Blizz issue???

I can install Cataclysm Classic but updating retail or retail beta fails with “We’re having a problem transferring data. Please check your internet connection just in case and try again.” and referring to BLZBNTAGT000008A4.

I uninstalled World of Warcraft again, being sure to delete the WTF, Interface, and Fonts folders which were left after the uninstall. That didn’t help. I then uninstalled Battle.net and reinstalled it. Upon reopening battle.net, I reinstalled World of Warcraft. Instead of failing this time, it downloaded the game files and I was able to start the game. I copied over my backups of the Interface and WTF folders and it still worked.

I’ll post again if it breaks. I see that the battle.net app needs to be updated but I don’t trust it yet and don’t want to ruin my morning. I guess I’ll un-cancel my account if it keeps working.

Having this exact problem on my Mac and it started a day ago as well. Everything works but RETAIL WOW.

Same here, problem started yesterday. Tried everything including uninstalling the game and battle.net. Now i cant even reinstall the game because of this.

After a bunch of battle.net reinstalls i got the game installation to start, but after opening the game and closing it to let the installation finish the error came back and now i am in square one again with no clue on what to do. The game is unplayable.

I think i found a way to bypass this, if you are lucky enough to have the game installed and have the executable, open it normally without battle,.net (it wont auto log you in), but then if you go back into battle.net, you will see that the “Update” button no longer says “Update”, but it chaned to “Play”, click the Play button in battle.net and the game will open and auto log you into it. You will have to close the other instance of WOW (the first one that didnt auto log you in)

Unfortunately, this is the way it has to be done for now before a fix is implemented. Will update if it no longer works this way.

Thanks I’ll try that! I tried to open the executable, but it asked for my authenticator code and AFAIK the Authenticator app no longer provides codes.

Unfortunately I am stuck having to reinstall…

Yes, I’m having the same problem. I did a reinstall of both WoW WW and that didn’t work. So, I did a reinstall of both the game and the Blizz launcher. That fixed it for one run. When I tried to log in again it goes back to claiming there is some update and when I tell it to update, I get the error message.

I opened a ticket on this hoping that tech support might help. I’ve not heard directly from them yet. However, what seems to be an auto responder sent a message back stating to check a support page and it provided a link to the page. The page didn’t really address the problem. So, I replied to tech support. We’ll see if I hear back from them.

I don’t know if there is actually an update since I redownloaded the game it would/should have contained all of the latest updates. Additionally, the numbers for the client version and also the Blizz launcher version appear to be current (version 11.0.5.57689 and launcher version 2.38.015147 with an update agent version of 2.37.0.8956).

24 Hour Update

So, after spending an exhaustive time with “tech support” this issue was not resolved. Their final suggestion to me was basically, “well, we’ve done all we can, you’ll have to seek out local assistance or check in the forums.” Needless to say my end survey wasn’t very nice. I will say that the people I messaged back and forth with did seem pleasant and polite, so no ill towards them. However, tech support is not what it once was, not in the slightest.

In any event, I might have found a solution, not that this is going to help others with the problem but, I thought I’d put this up here so some might benefit from it. I should also advise that I’m not sure it’s a permanent solution.

I was running the Beta installer and had been for ages. I switched back to the standard Battle.net installer and the problem resolved. What I’m not sure about is whether the installer was causing the issue, or if somehow something got jammed up during some update at some point and began this mess and thus, when I moved back over to the standard version, it somehow cleared the jammed update request. In any event, I seem to be working again. I wish the best for the rest of you having this issue.

I had the same issue and, after following all the standard troubleshooting steps, I finally found the solution. You need to turn off the “Limit IP address tracking” in your Wireless or Ethernet settings.

Tried this, didn’t work.

Opening the Application file (.exe) directly seems to have worked.

I’ve done everything suggested here and by support from battle.net. Is my only option to find a new game?
