Hunter is purpose-built for this kind of playthrough.
Comes with a tank, you can heal the tank, you can dump out the damage, and you have feign death to get you out of hairy situations.
If you’re after increased difficulty, avoid Hunter.
If you want to make things even harder, you can avoid investing into your talent trees.
Whatever you do, I don’t think things are going to become difficult until you’re much later in the game, when you start to feel all that fat stamina and damage you’re missing out on.
Also no items better than white quality, unless that’s already been mentioned.
Want to go really hard core? You can only use white/gray gear until level 60. After that only gear that can be bought off a vendor.
Well, if you werent able to to talent amything at all that would be hardcore. With the redesign it would be impossible.
I think falling is the only way to lose unless you do something extremely dumb.
I like this idea too I will incorporate this!
There’s the iron man challenge that requires you to delete your character the first time that you die.
Darktide on Asheron’s Call.
2 months later. Lol.
Almost all of my characters have at least 1 death by the time they get to max level. Usually because I got bored, did something stupid and died lol.
Yeah I was hoping the classic hardcore addon had a version for retail but doesn’t look like it.
For those recommending the Ironman challenge, it is in fact a bit different than hardcore rules.
Hardcore does allow you to do dungeons.
Hardcore has 2 and 3 man modes.
Hardcore allows you to wear gear.
Hardcore allows proffesions/consumables
Ironman challenge is strictly solo play.
Ironman doesn’t let you equip most gear.
Ironman doesn’t let you do dungeons ect.
Ironman doesn’t let you use professions / consumables.
So it’s safe to say, Ironman is much more difficult than your standard hardcore mode. Neither allows for trading/AH but hardcore does allow you to wear gear and do profession stuff.
Retail does have a statistics page under achievements that tracks things like deaths, heirlooms equipped, gold looted, ect which would make it very easy to verify runs.
You can make this as difficult as you want. Some of the ideas below might have been from the old ironman challenge
For example:
-only grey items
-no talents beyond a specialization at 10
-no healing potions/elixirs (i think bandages were allowed)
-no professions or food buffs
check out wowchallenges dot com for one site that offered a rule set. You will see that talents were allowed in this challenge. again, design it yourself.
I was thinking of a Spartan challenge which would sort of be on these ideas. but it would be more or less as follows:
-warrior class (don’t care about spec)
-gear set: heirloom 1h/shield, waist, boots, cloak
-do not die, etc
-no professions, elixirs, buffs, etc…
what server? doing hc retail . what guild name?
This thread is from February. They probably already finished this month’s ago.
Retail Hardcore M+ pugging, the premium stream. Imagine the carnage, and unbound rage.
you like easy mode
in addition to…
there’s also no purchasing from auction house/only using quest reward loot for one example
Yeah I tried classic HC got to level 20 and died to some centaur in the barrens haha. Was pretty fun though
What I would like:
-
You can only do each dungeon or raid 1 time, whether you live or die, your toon won’t be allowed to go in again.
(prolly wouldn’t want to throw random people together for this) -
Server side data recording of your gameplay, it can be deleted automatically every 10 minutes or so but gets saved automatically if you die, so players are not required to screen record to prove a death was due to glitch or bug. I don’t think my PC could handle playing and recording at same time. (Blizz wouldn’t have to record actual video, just the data that’s transferred, which could be shown as a video later if needed)
-
no non-hardcores on realm, hardcore only.
-
At 70 your toon gets a free transfer to a normal retail server of your choice, along with a title ( Tõÿs The Hardcore… I like it ) Or, you can go for double or nothing, roll a different toon (not same class) and level it to 70 and you get the title and a sweet mount, but die, you lose everything, including the title and both toons.
You wouldn’t see many of that mount because that would be only way to get it.
(oh, and obviously one death per toon, you can appeal if you died due to unnatural causes)
I’m leveling a mage right now, not with hardcore rules or anything. But i find that Hardcore retail would be such a cake walk. I’m almost level 70 on that mage, i have done everything solo with only gear i have found/got from a quest and i have never even came close to dying. So hardcore on retail would be so easy that it’s kinda pointless to play with these restrictions because they don’t do anything or make the game any harder.
All those where already done except the first one
That’s a popular way to die in classic hardcore, too.
You lost me right here. Every character I create has a back story and an emotional attachment (that starts with choosing their name) that grows as I level them up. It’s why I don’t have very many alts, it would become to much to handle. I can’t imagine deleting them just bc they died.
My great purge of elf characters was difficult but necessary. Deleting a character due to death, especially if it wasn’t my fault, would not be a fun experience.
