I purchased a character transfer to transfer the character I’m posting from (Bigolfeg) only for the transfer to say my character was ineligible. This is a retail character transfer and I have not transferred him in the last 72 hours. I reached out to a GM in game who said that there is a 90 day cooldown on character transfers; however, everything I am reading suggests that this is only for classic servers. Furthermore, I have a friend who transferred his character from one server to another and back within a week that I can verify. Am I missing something? Is there some other reason my character would be ineligible for transfer?
It does sound like there was confusion between retail and classic. There are other restrictions to transfers, such as pets not learned, gold maximum, having heirloom items.

I don’t believe my character would meet any of those criteria. If there is confusion, it would be great to get sorted out as I intended to prog towards CE with a new guild last night.
Just as a by the by, both for you and anyone else who trips over this thread in the near and distant future - it is always a good idea to give yourself a few days grace if you’re intending to transfer to raid or whatnot. Most of the time these things progress without a hitch, but then other times like this - you didn’t get to raid on your new server last night because of it.

For restrictions, it should only be a 72 hour cooldown. It does sound like the Game Master was confusing retail with classic era, though to be fair, your initial ticket text talked about having a 90 day cooldown and if we can’t bypass that you wanted a refund.
As we wouldn’t be able to bypass something like that, they granted the refund.
As for the restriction itself, I would have wanted to know what exact error you were getting and I would have recommended submitting a ticket asking about that. Your ticket became about the refund, not trying to figure out why you couldn’t transfer.
If you want to try again, you’d need to purchase a character transfer token. If you still are getting an error, then you’d want to submit a ticket with the error you are getting so that it can be looked into.

Turns out, having the new mail icon was what was causing the issue: When I moused over the transfer it was greyed out and said, “There are no eligible characters to transfer on this realm.” Not sure if this only happens when you have new mail but it at least allowed me to go through the process after I opened the new mail, despite having old mail in the box which it asked me to clear later on.
You cant have any mail or active auctions prior to a transfer that usualy the culprit.
