Ret Paladins, How viable will they be?

OP wanted to learn how to be a Ret pally. I have him a legitimate info source. Arguably the best. You are who tried to belittle it. No one says Ret is or ever will be #1. But DPS is not everything when it comes to it. They bring a ton to the table, and Esfand is a fantastic source to learn from.

Generally, Ret will be okay in non bleeding edge guilds as long as they keep buffs up and make use of all their class utility. Having Nightfall makes them much more useful.

However, standing there doing nothing but autoattacking hoping for Seal of Command procs is what gives Rets a bad name. The less that happens, the more welcome they will be.

Just no. just stop. Some super hybrid cross breed shockadin that takes max effort to master VS a class already balanced that does equal or better DPS. Come on.

You may get dragged a long as a charity case but no min/maxing guild is taking a ret paladin because “omg if we dont have one!!!” (nothing will happen)

The only problem with casual raiding is if you have a roster full of people who are too lazy or don’t have time to farm consumables, eventually somewhere on the map, they can’t progress anymore and the guild falls apart or becomes social

This is even more of an issue for raiding ret paladins. In order to be even somewhat viable you need to min/max hardcore and bring every consumable you can. The majority of ret paladins you see on legacyplayers raid logs don’t put in the effort and it shows.

Maybe. It depends on the rest of the raid composition and how many bad people you have.

Pretty much agree. I felt bad for them during retail vanilla, because the class wasn’t what the description said it was, and people didn’t know better.

Fast forward to today, I can’t feel bad for them, they know better. It doesn’t help that most of them are incredibly greedy. All that utility and they almost never use it on the group, it’s like they can only heal/cleanse/etc themselves. I think the average modern day ret paladin just want to be a warrior without any of the weaknesses.

Geting people to look past the outdated perceptions of Ret=Worthless is going to be your hardest task. Utalize all the advantages you can find and carry off-set gear to help in a pinch. Be flexible.

we don’t want rets to be worthless thats just how blizz made the spec.

Ret does lower dps than all pure dps’s. They are easily kited by most classes in pvp. Just the facts of classic guy.

This is one of my fears with classic wow. Blizzard never will make balance changes no matter how much the people ask for them. So get ready to play the next 15 years with 1.12 .

Can’t dunk on ish if you are dead from boss mechanics. An equally geared good Ret Pally will always be more useful to a raid group than a trash player on any class.

DPS isn’t everything unless it’s everything. Like on a boss that’s a DPS race.

The DPS races in vanilla had laughably low dps requirements.
If you are worried about DPS requirements not being met in vanilla, then you should focus on getting your dps to actually perform and survive the mechanics because that is what mattered in vanilla raiding.
