Ret Paladins, How viable will they be?

Not really, no but your insistance on trolling is amusing for popcorn fodder.

Get on your Paladin

I don’t particularly play paladin, I have a great friend who does however I played Holy Priest for most of my life.

As a Paladin you must realize you are utilized in more ways than one. In Classic WoW you do not play a spec, you play a Class. Paladins can heal, tank and DPS.

If you want to play ret in raids wait till you have T2 for spell damage bonus in the armor. Also farm dungeon set for spell damage bonus.

If you want to get into raids to get that sweet T2, join a raiding guild. Heal until you have enough gear to be a beast. Let the leaders in your guild know your intentions, but be willing to be a healer to have a raid spot and have a chance at looting gear.

Good luck. I plan on healing in raids and gearing towards ret at the same time!

This is one of my fears with classic wow. Blizzard never will make balance changes no matter how much the people ask for them. So get ready to play the next 15 years with 1.12 .

Fundamentally I’d be fine with buffs so long as they don’t at all change how the classes worked in Vanilla.

Otherwise no this is a bad idea.

all sarcasm from your post aside, ive played warriors and warlocks and various other classes for the full scope of wow from dec 24th of the year it came out and i still learn new ways to play and new tricks and things about the game every day.

im sure you have tried off healing on melee unfriendly bosses and throwing lay of hands or just stopping dps to help with very tight ultra healing windows?

or offtanking on fights like garr or others like it?

i played with a druid and a pally that did those things and they were the best ones i played with in all the time i played wow.

i would love small buffs as well but sadly people in this forum will start rage-moan spamming every 2 seconds a new topic "Blizzard you destroyed classic wow cuz you boost PLD damage 0.3% lmao

There is much theory crafting to be done in Classic.
Much is possible. Its real try hard, but Ret will be possible.

If your guild is okay with it, they will let you play Ret.
You just need spell damage gear for it.

Finally, someone with a sense of reality.

What is this “to be done” future tense?

You know MILLIONS of people already “did” 1.12?

LOL stuff to be done
just Google the old notes from 1.12

Prove yourself to be a true hybrid and people are typically ok with you only doing 70-80% of the DPS.

If you treat a paladin like a warrior then you’ll fail and get stuck doing MC PuGs and AV your whole career.

If you’re in a solid raiding guild you may have to heal for a while until you get ret gear.

You’ll always need to farm consumables to even reach that 70-80% DPS range, even if they don’t use many consumables.

Fury Warriors hardly existed when 1.12 happened, contray to popular belief they were not at all popular in Vanilla Wow Arms was actually considered viably better back then.

It took private servers for people to realize on a more widespread note how bad Fury was overlooked for the most part.

Theorycrafting back then was literally what worked, worked and anything else didn’t because it was a new game and people had no idea wtf they were doing 90% of the time.

There is still plenty of theorycrafting you can do how stuff like Spelladin happened.

This however is a sad reality if you play Ret or plan on it 70-80% of your downtime is gonna be consumable farming which is not at all fun.

More viable than boomkin and enh shaman. Less viable than anything else.

Lots of theorycrafting going around. Yes, you can do more dps than people might expect if you really work your tail off. But that same amount of effort applied to almost any other dps spec will also yield greater results.

Also, it’s very likely that you’ll be at the bottom of the list for offset gear upgrades in a fair amount of guilds.

That all being said, vanilla raids hardly require 40/40 perfectly min maxed characters to be able to complete them.

You are not being realistic. All that matters is if the player is competent or not. The only guilds that will be able to afford to pass up good players are the top of the top. Like i said finding 40 competent players for your raid group is not an easy task.

Also I’ve seen examples of raids downing bosses and with Ret paladins competing on damage meters. It’s completely doable.

Their is a hysteria about the Ret Pally that i keep seeing here on the forums. People just keep regurgitating the same talking points over and over but I’m not sure they ever even experience Classic raiding. Bringing a Ret pally to a raid is not going to be the deciding factor of whether you down a boss or not.

Again, we’ll agree to disagree.

Oof.

“It isn’t like how it was for me therefore it isn’t possible and or is super duper rare.” aka or it isn’t like it was 2004-2006 and that scares me.

My guild had 2 Ret pallies, we got to AQ40 and we still did fine never downed C’thun but that was an overall guild problem rather then having two Ret pally problem.

That is such a lie you’re telling.

But theres a tad of truth, but so small.

Sure, best geared best speced mage doing the best DPS who stands in the fire and taxes your healer and makes them go OOM and tank dies
yes, that type of incompetence is damaging.

BUT the most competent mage VS the most competent Ret paladin, theres no comparison.

“Just be a good person and you will get loot!” Stop man, please.

The boss isn’t going to die because you brought 39 very nice people to the raid who don’t stand in fire.
