If anything, the real losers will end up being dps shamans as they may not even get a raid spot in T9 and especially T10.

Playing ret in this xpac is literally a free invite to raids, if you’re good everyone will want you.

Oh wait, i forgot, 80% of the ret population is a fresh reroll who expected it to be an ez class in pve and pvp.

Top guilds can do just fine running degenerate comps such as single tank, or only 2 healers in a 25 man.

But the average player is not at that level.

Any raid that refuses to take utility dps specs like ret, spriest, boomy, etc. is not one worth wasting your time on.

Raw damage-wise, obviously not. No one is pretending otherwise, and for Naxx they aren’t really needed because Arcane fills the damage buff niche, but all signs point to Ulduar being the moment fire finally gets its time to shine again and if all the mages go Fire then Ret has won its raid slot by default because the 3% damage buff is just that strong.

Ideally you want to have 3 or 4 paladins in your raid, 3 for judgments, and 4 to cover all blessings (one of which must be prot). Running a Prot and 2 Holy isn’t going to shock anyone, but if you want a fourth I don’t think a 3rd holy is the right call and I don’t know how popular 2 Prot Pallies will be.

The million dollar question really just boils down to is if Arcane gets a slot or not, and I think that’s really going to come to whether or not fights melt or not because if they don’t then Arcane could very easily get sidelined.

Fire will outscale arcane by T8. Furthermore, arcane gets completely shafted in fights that require movement.

Ret is gonna be just fine.

I play this class and I knew what I was signing up for, as opposed to being a FOTM roller. I enjoy it, I don’t think it needs a buff. It’s a utility class first & foremost, not every class has to be topping meters compared to other classes. Focus on parsing well within what your class’ capabilities are.

The thing we’re not talking about though is that Ret is currently propped up a bit by undead mobs. Ulduar and T9 won’t have those and that will reduce their damage.

We all know Arcane is going to get outscaled, the question is does Arcane perform well enough to be used over a Ret. If Ret does 5k DPS and Arcane can still put out 5.5k DPS then on that merit alone Arcane would be the right call because you can just slot a fire mage, Aff, or whatever over the Ret and move on, but that ignores the Paladin utility aspect.

I support this for ret and fury warrs

My suggestion is revert divine storm back to holy damage instead of physical, giving a slight buff so it essentially negates armor since most bosses dont have a resistance to holy

warriors dont need buff they will be strong af once they get armor pen caps

I think a raid could easily make room for a Fire Mage and an Arcane Mage. The Arcane Mage won’t do as much damage as Fire, but it will provide the 3% buff and do better damage than the Ret Paladin.

The main issue is balancing a class based on a set bonus that wont be in the game for another year, there has to be a different way to balance.

And warrior is the exact same but there’s no crying warrior thread. Get over it, you’re playing a trash spec, I am too. The whole preface of this thread is not wanting to be as bad as warriors lol claiming that warriors are going to be getting a buff because of the Ilvl scaling. We probably are still going to suck, and you will too.

all warrior has holding it back is gear. by uduar you scale naturally. ret paladin gains almost nothing from full p1 to full p2 bis.

because we’re a post-nerf spec playing in a pre-nerf world.

If the spec was balanced around its T10 set – couldnt an easy fix also to just make T8 and T9 have the same set bonus? get rid of their current 4-set bonus and just make it the same as T10 2-set. Easy fix and no actual changes to the class will need to happen.

Plus the code for T10 2-set is already out there. Dev’s can just copy and paste and do as little work as possible… Per usual

it’s no balanced around t10 set bonus. the t10 set bonus has already been simmed with icc gear and only amounts to a 5% dps gain. we’re 20% behind feral druid

we just dont do damage.

5% is still better than nothing, at least with this change a raid spot can be secured for sweatier guilds.

Plus this change wont affect PVP balance (if they made it a pve 4-set i highly doubt rets will sacrifice a whole pvp set for the bonus)and devs wont have to mess with abilities.

Although i do think a combination of reverting DS back to holy damage along with the set bonus would be really awesome. Even if it doesnt put us on par with feral druid it would be a massive change for the better

Your kit is designed to enhance your party through the various blessings, auras, and judgements you have.
Your individual DPS will be subpar, but you increase the overall party/raid DPS passively with your abilities. Most of these buffs are percentage based, so they don’t need to scale directly.
That is why you bring a ret paladin to your raid.
