The dude got disenchanted, and the dust flew away on the wind.
I’m sure Varian will make appearances occasionally because of all the timelines nonsense.
We don’t need to be reviving characters who are dead. Their stories are done, and we’re building new characters now.
Frankly Alliance needs a new leader. Anduin is just ehh boring white knight. They need a badass much like the Horde do. But not sure if it’s gonna happen.
I’m cool with that too
This cracked me up. Lawful Dumb alignment.
Just because they can, doesn’t mean they should.
I agree. The point is that they can though, which waters down everything just by being written in as possible.
I don’t take any of it as canon because it is specifically made to be easily changed. Anyone’s headcanon is as valuable as what is recorded on wowpedia.
no.
he died a failure, and an embarrassment…
not just for the alliance…
but for azeroth as a whole.
This. Is. Genius! 10 char
I agree, and while we are retconning, make Varian a gnome!
Chaotic dumb over here /princesswave
The man got disenchanted. He ain’t coming back outside of ghost form to talk to Anduin once in a while.
Now what they should do since they got most of the Sons of Lothar back together is bring Danath Trollbane into the mix more often.
Seeing Varian in mop remix really makes me miss him… though it wouldn’t be so bad if Anduin wasn’t so weak and whiny.
what’s shadowlands?
never heard of it.
MoP 10,000IQ Trials of the High King Varian is my least favorite Varian. And he’s still much better than any one of the Aspects.
But he died well and that’s that. Make new characters.
He dies fighting, on screen, as a plot hook to get us invested. It was death used correctly. Like AU Velen sacrificing himself to cleanse the naaru. It gave that character substance because we had stakes.
Voljin dies near a campfire, Tauren leader dies in a short story, garrosh’s death by thrall was a lightning bolt. Horde leads havent died valiantly imho. Saurfang was close, but he was so far outclassed (which is honestly freaking idiotic but whatever) that it made the sacrifice feel meh. It wasn’t his sacrifice that causes the forsaken to finally question Sylvanas. It was him baiting her into openly denouncing the horde in front of everyone.
The funny part about this is Varian did better against the full might of the Burning Legion than Saurfang did against 1 elf that doesn’t even use melee as her primary weapon.
They did Saurfang dirty.
I get what you’re saying, and agree with you. But are we really gonna count killing Velen’s understudy as stakes?
It is an excellent cut scene though.
They really did do him dirty. I really wanted him to die in war or keep the trope that he can’t find his rest.
The death of his son in ICC is another fantastic example of what gave his character depth. All squandered for a half baked story. Sigggghh
I mean, it’s AU so does it really matter? But as a zone capstone cutscene it’s fantastic. It fits with the narrative and the stakes are dire when it happens. That whole zone is just very well done. It escalated quickly but believably.
