Resto shaman healing in TBC

Is the play style fundamentally different? I have a 60 shaman but I didn’t like healing with it in Classic.

Your 1.5 second heal is extremely expensive so you instead end up downranking a 2.5 second heal. Using a lot of different ranks depending on damage. Chain heal is boring to use because of its 2.5 second cast time. Also expensive on mana so you are again using different ranks.

The new spell to wipe totems seems like a godsend. But really between having to use so many different ranks and the long cast times I found it wasn’t for me.

Does the downranking at least go away with TBC? It seems like downranking healing wave is still more economical than lesser healing wave. No bueno…

Honestly it feels exactly like Vanilla healing + Earth Shield. IMO Rsham healing doesnt get fun until WOTLK when they get Riptide, Tidal Waves, Ancestral Awakening, Earthliving Weapon, and Tidal Force. They got a LOT better in PvP in wrath too.

You probably shouldn’t play a healer. You don’t seem to understand what the point of it is and you don’t grasp the fundamental concepts.

I was one of the top 10 paladin healers on whitemane in the first month of Classic.

Not sure I follow here… Just because he doesnt prefer the playstyle of one healer, doesnt mean he “doesnt understand the concept of healing”.

Well the things he’s describing as not liking generally apply to every other healing class to some extent.

For example.

Its a fundamental healing concept that slow heals are more efficient than fast heals(at least for shaman and priest). So yea, downranking a slow heal is the most economical. Why would you cast anything but fast heals if this weren’t true?

It’s the precise opposite for Paladin. I did however purposely say ‘extremely expensive’ because I also have a 60 priest and I don’t remember the cost differential being so severe.

That user is just a sad person looking to give himself a morale boost.

Yea its great!

wow bro grats on your sick molten core skills

Chain heal go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I don’t want grats. I wasn’t bragging. I was debunking that user’s baseless remark. lol @ seeking morale boosts from a video game.

And it isn’t like Classic ever got hard. The only reason I stopped ranking is because I stopped playing. Precisely because of how easy it was.

Honestly no. Shaman healing doesnt get fun until wotlk with their different spells weaving together to provide buffs to one another. The only class that can be fun pve healing on is priest imo.

Yeah I think I will just go enhance on my shaman.

I leveled a priest on Incendius at the beginning of covid and then free transfers destroyed the server. I missed that wave and then got stuck there and I’m not paying Blizz to transfer him just because they mismanaged their game. It seemed better to play than Shaman but I never got to raid with him.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your point. It sounds like you just want to spam one heal instead of picking between slow/efficient and fast/inefficient heals of varying power based on damage being taken.

Edit: Oh, I disagree with the quoted part. Down ranking was a paladin thing too.

Not really no. I want to be able to cast heals more often than every 2.5 seconds. That’s my main complaint with Shaman. And I don’t mind situational downranking, but it was a bit overkill with Shaman due to your mana issues and just how expensive some heals are.

With Paladin you use holy light when max rank flash of light won’t give you enough HPS. You don’t downrank holy light because it’s more efficient than flash of light of the same strength.

I would say no, nothing has changed that much. If you didn’t like shaman healing in classic, I don’t expect that feeling will change in tbc.

Try refreshing watershield… a lot of idiots fail 2 do that and then complain about downranking(in tbc).
