It’s the only way to reel in the sheer volume generated from the unchecked botting and GDKPs not circulating gold out of the economy. Maybe after gold is reset can we get some actual punishments for people buying gold and botting…
Maybe we could region lock SE Asia and Russia out of the NA classic servers?

Yea cuz resetting gold will solve it… It totally wont start all over again
(VPNs allow them to act as they are in any country they want)

VPNs can still be defeated for region locking(Steam has such a system after people were purchasing cheaper games out of region via VPNs)…and yes, resetting gold will solve the oversupply floating around in the economy.
Bots print gold > Gold bought by whale > Gold spent at GDKP > GDKP sells gold to another player or trades it to another player(never leaves economy) > Bots keep printing money meanwhile.
That’s why you’ve got GDKPs now running with pots in the hundreds of thousands of gold compared to maybe 70k gold tops in vanilla classic(and only around Naxx). There is an oversupply and it isn’t leaving circulation. Basic inflation.
What they need to do is just have a single fresh Wrath server. The option for everyone to start at a level playing field takes care of this problem, as well as offering a myriad of other reasons for people to start new or start fresh.

Feel free to wipe your gold and anything else you want. I’m not going to however. I am not responsible for OTHER players cheating the game.
Region banning is also a stupid suggestion. You just punish people that travel or move, basically telling them they can’t play the game anymore unless they start over in a new region.

So is this an admission of RMT on your part or are you just normally mad at reasonable suggestions?

If there is a way to fix it I’m all ears.
But let’s say you have deleted all the gold in wow…
Now the bots do into overdrive to sell the coiners the gold they want and the cycle restarts.
Kill off 100% the bots forever and kill off 95% of the gold and it might work for a while, but real players sell gold also, so need to ban them also…

Haha I said in a post that I’m surprised that someone isn’t asking for a gold reset for WotLK guess I spoke too soon.
It solves the issue short term but long term it exacerbates the issue.
Summery of replies:
“It isn’t a permanent solution, so nothing should be done at all.”
That doesn’t sound like reasonable logic everyone…
Not saying that nothing should be done, just that why should the gold I’ve earned be taken away because people RMT?
Why should I suffer the consequences of other peoples misdeeds?
People will still buy gold.
People will still have bots endlessly farm.
Why should I, someone who’s never bought gold get punished?
Something should be done, ban the bots and people that buy gold. It’s just that simple.

Posts like this one were around leading up to Classic TBC as well. They will NOT be resetting gold.

How would you be suffering consequences if everyone’s gold was wiped? Do you not want to play the new content? You would be gaining more purchasing power for time invested in farming than if gold supply was left alone as is. It’s already to the point on large servers where you have to be involved in RMT one way or the other to compete with money supply. I would argue not wiping gold is punishing people more because our farming time is becoming obsolete and invalidates any future efforts we make to earn/farm gold.
Here’s a solution for you…
Mail all your gold to a level one alt.
Delete the alt.
Boom!
No more dirty gold.

How can you not understand that if they did a gold reset because of RMT and botters, that the people that didn’t buy gold or bot are being punished for something they didn’t do?
You’re suggesting that they take the gold I’ve earned legitimatly and just delete it, how’s that anything other than getting punished for something I didn’t do?
Sounds to me you don’t know how to farm or don’t want to invest the time to farm. How much gold would you say you need? I have 30k gold, I think this is plently for going into WotLK, I think even 5k is plently.
Play the auction house or do proffesions, or is that “dirty money”?

I earned all my gold and am making alot to take into Wrath. i like the spirit of your suggestion but i dont think its practical, solves anything, and punishes people who didnt do anything wrong.

The gold you are earning now literally is worthless compared to the supply. The only way you’d “earn” comparable amounts is through A) Purchasing it or B) Running GDKPs that are funded by the purchase of it
If gold resets, then your future farming will actually have value. Apparently it’s not that bad of a concept since people decided to roll fresh in SoM. It’s the only way the playing field can be leveled and Blizz can get on top of RMT this time around.
Thats a feature of SOM if you should want to go that route.
Also, I get your point about supply. I knew that already. I just dont want to go that route. The problem is the median gold isnt so much that your point bears much weight. A smaller percentage sits on hundreds of thousands of gold. Thats not most people though. So in a way your point is moot. True in theory, but not when the bulk of the curve is not stupid rich.
Also, I only have about 20k and will only have about 30k before Wrath. I have never done a single GDKP or bought gold. I made it JCing and cooking lol. I want to keep what I’ve earned, especially since the value argument you made doesnt really come into play
Send all your gold to me,and I’ll “properly” dispose of it.
30k is not a lot of gold, and it’s going to be even more worthless come WotLK launch with all the gold being stockpiled atm by gold sellers running GDKPs. I know because I watch groups run by people who openly buy gold because Blizz doesn’t seem to really care and neither does the community anymore. You must be on a smaller server if you think 30k is going to go far. These people are stockpiling literal millions across multiple accounts and will be setting prices come WotLK. Legitimate players cannot compete with those sums of gold. I’d rather be setback some and farm fresh in WotLK than have my farming continually devalued throughout an entire expansion. It’s why a lot of people left in TBC, no value in spending time trying to grind. Makes more sense to pull out the credit card and either buy gold or find something else to play…
I guess if people want to play Wrath of the Whale King with the whales and bots, then continue on course. Otherwise, gold should be wiped. Allow people to keep their gold in TBC only servers, make progression clean slate where you can only bring your toon and gear.
