wts flame ******ant underwear
but i don’t want ants in my underwear!
fire ants no less (made of literal fire, like the Lavantulas we have in boiling cauldron Blackrock)
Just curious as to what good you think that will do? Even with the filter on it’s pretty easy to figure out what is said just in context.
Edgelords are gonna edge, kinda sucks people wanna justify being terrible and say hateful things to the point of trying to silence the OP who only wanted a known ableist slur added to the existing [and very optional] profanity filter.
Even if it couldn’t be added, one could technically right click report the offender for language as it’s still technically against the TOS. Wise man once said just because someone CAN say something doesn’t mean they should.
literally zero percent of you play with the mature language filter on.
Framing this argument in terms of offence is misleading. Words cause harm. Not experiencing that harm is a privilege in itself.
Looks like you’ve had the privilege to not be harassed on a daily basis just for existing.
The privilege to not have to care about loved ones going through the same.
The privilege not to repeatedly, through your formative years and later life, see words that describe you be used interchangeably with words that just mean bad or negative.
You said you don’t get hurt by words on the internet. If you had an ounce of empathy, you’d see that what you think is a show of strength, is actually just showing that you don’t listen and don’t care about people who do experience harm.
The OP gave a measured, non controversial, suggestion that might make life for his niece a little better. If you’re trashing him for that, you’re causing harm, to him and to others. If you enjoy causing harm, you’re part of the reason this post exists, and part of the reason this community remains so toxic.
Adding a word to an optional filter and of course GD has people rising against this oppressive idea!
I wanna say I’m surprised, but sadly I’m not. You could find someone to argue in favor of kicking puppies if you posted against it here…
I’m… not honestly sure how to take this thread after reading it…
What if those puppies are mauling a baby?
joking…joking
Wow, I can’t believe people still use that word.
Were they born in a barn?!!
They were not taught words can’t hurt you. I mean I get it. Words can hurt, until you are taught they are just words and its your reaction that is important. Now for the mentally handicapped, yea that’s a tall order, especially if they are locked in at 5 or 6 years old, mentally. However, for some reason sticks and stones may break my bone but words will never hurt me. Was replaced with Word are violence.
My wife and I both sometimes still use retarded or gay as a way of saying that something is “Lame”. We were children of the 90s, so it is just ingrained in us.
After I say it though, I do find myself immediately apologizing to…the universe? No one specifically. But I am not sure I will ever completely outgrow it though.
Edit - That being said, I am happy that our daughter (6 years old) never caught onto that. She just says “this sucks” or whatever kids these days say.
I don’t quite get why this thread has been mass flagged, if its not already part of the mature language filter it kinda should be… It’s not even like most players USE the mature language filter, but for children who play WoW or the people that TC describes…
It seems like a very valid request. Its not a thread trying to take away anything from anyone, just asking for protection for their niece.
I get the whole culture of “grow ticker skin” and will admit on certain topics I will often make that statement myself. I do however feel they have a very valid point if that word is not part of the profanity filter, it honestly should be.
Again. Most people play with it disabled, it exists for people who DON’T want to see the excessive toxicity in chats or do not want to deal with profanity. It exists for people with young children who they do not want exposed to such things.
I think it’s an entirely valid inquiry/request and again do not understand why this has been mass flagged.
It is ironic it has been flagged. That irony will be lost on many.
On the other hand, it brings attention to the post in a way that may not be to the flaggers’ intent.
Please don’t try to speak for all autists, I am one myself and that R word has no effect on me. I grew up being called that, and now it is a meaningless insult that shows whoever is using it is not worthy of legible discussion.
You can’t let petty words get under your skin. You will not enjoy life.
What do I know… Nobody else will perceive it like I will.
Except I don’t really see them doing that in their statement.
In fact, they very specifically state that their niece gets hurt by the word. The only broad claim they make is that Autism/Down Syndrome is serious but they specifically make this request for their niece. While you may be older, more use to it, and it may have no effect on you it may still have effect on others.
And while this is the mindset I personally try to live with, not everyone is like me or you. I am a morbidly obese man and while I personally do not take issue with fat jokes/shaming I get that other’s do. I mean, some people can be a little absurd with things like asking for an entire race to be removed or such, but is TC’s request really hurting anyone when it kinda falls in line for what the filter is suppose to exist for in the first place?
You say the words don’t bother you, so I assume you play with the Mature Language Filter off then? What harm would requesting it be added to the Mature Language Filter be for you then when its optional to begin with and exists for people who are not like you and can’t handle those words/for parents who don’t want their children subjected to those things?
There are perfectly innocent uses of that word, i.e. “Heavy vehicles often have engine brakes which serve to retard the engine and slow the vehicle, especially when travelling downhill, saving wear and tear on the friction brakes.”
“It means a bundle of sticks, bro!”
lul, that’s a hilarious load of bull you’ve written there where only people who hold your position have empathy. You’ve made a whole lot of assumptions about who I am as a person and what I’ve experienced in my life, and you’ve put an awful lot of words in my mouth I never said or even implied. I bet you’re the kind of person who uses racial slurs against people of color (like myself) when they disagree with your opinions. You can deny it, but I know for a fact you do.
