All you’re doing is changing which words will carry the same connotation as retard. Retardation was a medical term that people have recently latched onto as being offensive. Those same people are fine with other insulting words such as stupid, idiotic, etc…
To summarize you will literally accomplish nothing by banning words because another word will simply take its place

I agree, if you’re going to bother having a language filter at all you may as well include anything demeaning which the r word obviously is. As long as there is an option to have the censorship enabled or disabled I see no issue with this. People shouldn’t have to worry about being harassed or bullied while playing a game they provide a monthly subscription for.

There are other words just as innocuous as ‘retard’ that are blocked by the in game chat filter. The OP is merely requesting that this word also be added to the in game chat filter so he and his family do not have to see it. He’s not asking to make it an actionable offence to use this word he just doesn’t want to see it because he very rightly pointed out that the only times people on WoW use the word is when trying to insult someone else. I have yet to see anyone in game or on the forums write something like “this particular mechanic in BFA retards my enjoyment of the game” it’s usually phrased in a hostile way.

Sheltering yourself and your family from bad things is impossible and the mark of a weak person.
Just because you dont see it means it goes away. It better to understand it and realize there are mean people in the world and to grow a thick skin. Yeah, it can hurt some times, but when you realize its over the internet and it does not matter…who cares?

The in-game Language Filter is the weirdest thing ever!
I turned it on back in 2005 while I was leveling in the Barrens (three guesses why), and I’ve been too lazy to turn it off since then.
I’ve seen the craziest things get past the filter (including “retard”), whereas the filter would catch words like grapes 
— because look at what word you get if you remove the G.
Edit: AND the filter’s word list seems to change every couple years! I could never keep track of what’s filtered and what’s not.
