At the 2200 cutoff and above, representation in solo shuffle looks about like this.
17.8% demon hunter. 4-9% for a bunch of other classes, mostly healers who are artificially inflated by blizzard insisting wow pvp function like wow pve and healers be mandatory and overpowered. Then everyone else sharing the bottomfeeder table scraps.
39 specs in the game, in theory the representation should have 2.5ish % for each spec. Assuming we allow tanks to pvp which while blizzard pretends healers are fun and mandatory, blizzard also basically excludes tanks from pvp. Odd.
Mathematically demon hunters are over represented to the tune of about 750% over representation(roughly 18% representation when they should have 2.5%)
This has been consistent since the prepatch of last expansion. Demon Hunters have been insanely over represented. Does blizzard just assume all the cool kids play DH and thats why there’s so many?
Meanwhile I play an enh shaman. There are 11 of my spec above 2200. 11. Versus the HUNDREDS of demon hunters.
How on earth has this gone unchanged for years?

Nothing you said after this matters tbh

They don’t really have a real role/purpose of arena, and giving them one would strip cc from other roles.
Id sayhealers dont have a role/purpose of arena. They exist for the exact same reason tanks do, to prevent the natural conclusion from taking place. They exist to slow the pace of a match down. If its not okay for a tank to do it, why is it okay for a healer to do it?
In theory, balance should be such that even a tank and healer dont survive forever and can be killed by normal means. But we all know the truth, a healer is simply so powerful that if they partner with a tank, the tank is unkillable and healers are never good targets to train.
But thats not the point of this post. The post is for the fact spec diversity is abysmal in this solo shuffle thing. And the super majority of that problem is demon hunters.

Healers refill health bars, tanks are just bad dps that heal themselves for a lot. The game isn’t really structured to support play without dedicated healers right now.

Tanks do not have to be bad dps. I would wager if you took mostof the CC away from dps and gave it to tanks, tanks would be a disruptive bruiser in pvp, dps wou ld be a nuking assassin in pvp and healers could exist to slow the pace down and have an alternative, third playstyle.
See, here’s the issue; most people don’t want their specs pruned of cc.

where you getting that numbers that dh has been overly represented since pre-patch of last xpac? If anything ret paladins have seen peak representation last season and the latter half of 10.0

And most people dont play retail anymore because it has too many abilities, toomuch cc, too much burst, too much heals(Especialy on healers goodness gracious why does it take multiple dps to out dps a single healer’s healing? Why does DAMPENING have to exist for arenas to function?)
The games in an abominable state, truly awful. Low representaiton of classes, low player pop, homogenized gameplay. The only way to fix that is massive pruning.
Giving tanks CC wouldn’t even work from a PvE perspective, either. If they were to do it in PvP you’d be catering to too small of an audience that doesn’t even care about this thing.
You must be new to this game Kennie. In TBC PvP was the absolute mainstay of World of Warcraft. The majority of development on class design was PvP focused because it just makes sense – the PvP is more sensitive class balance than PvE and you can just tune PvE to whatever is good for PvP, you cannot do the inverse as easily.
The GAME is a small audience now precisely because they dont develop compelling evergreen PvP anymore. TBC the game organically grew to 10 million subs. They switched to homogenized class design and pve focus in Wrath and immediately lost millions of subs then tanked subs every expansion they didnt focus on PvP in.
PvE is good and important, but PvP is and will always be what makes or breaks WoW’s sub count.

Hmm.
Taking CC away from non-tanks and giving it to tanks doesn’t do anything.
Also, no, most people pve, although I think unranked play is fairly popular.

Sounds like this guy never played arena in WOTLK which was the pinnacle of arena.
I remember playing at 2.4 across the board as arms in 2s, 3s, and 5s.
3/4s of my matches in 2s were 30 plus minutes each.
Nipnips, you really think death knights with 1 min cd ibf at 50% damage reduction + ams making them immune to almost all cc every minute with god tier damage and burst and broken everything was… the pinnacle? Good golly goshes galoshes that is not a good look my guy. I played every expansion to a reasonably high rating and Wrath was just… bad. I played a death knight during it. One time I solo camped an entire 10 man WSG cause teh enemy team didnt have a DK and no one could stop me, even when my own team refused to protect me with the flag because I was holding all 19 other players hostage in my game.
You call that the pinnacle of game design? Where ARE your standards?
You realize caster cleave dominated in wotlk right?
Most people do pve now, Kennie, thats the problem. WHen most people pvp’d back in TBC the game had a very healthy, stable, consistent 8-10 million player sub count.
Now they refuse to admit their sub counts because they are so embarrassingly low and so many of them are only subbed for classic to play a 19 year old game.
How do you not see how pointing out the fact no one is pvping anymore in a half-dead game is like, I dont know. Bragging about being the best retail worker at a walmart? Youre not winning man.
