Reporting system in game

New penalty is triggering people’s “muh freedums!” response.

It seems like it’s automated based on number of reports which is why mass reports work and get people muted/banned even if they broke no rules.

Then when you ask for a review a CS employee should, in theory, review it. Most of the times you will get an automated reply though, you have to ask a few times before you get an actual human to reply.

The replies are kind cut and paste as they have to repeat the same thing constantly. It’s done a lot for many CS departments. Asking for custom response is kind of a waste of time.

Grabbing this thread from General since it kind of touches on some common support questions.

Reports from players are investigated by Game Masters. We’ve discussed in previous years BlizzCons how we are also using machine learning systems to make this a more efficient process. So, while not precisely automatic we do use automated systems to help highlight elements of reports for the Game Masters to make that process better.

As others have mentioned, we don’t generally elaborate on the specifics because of abuse concerns. And when we do identify system being abused, we take action against the players doing the abuse.

This argument seems to defeat itself. If tickets were all being handled by bots, they’d be getting handled faster - not slower. It has been quite a while since our general ticket queues have been in the week+ range. There may be occasions where we set aside tickets about a specific issue until a solution can be implemented by the game teams but that’s pretty rare.

The ticket you’re referring to was answered in just over 2 days. You added one more reply to that case, but it looks like you ended up canceling that second ticket.

Regardless, this discussion has been derailed by arguments about exaggerated response times. This doesn’t have anything to do with the report system so I’m going to go ahead and remove that section of this thread.

I’m curious, did he get banned at all for doing this? He’s also reporting people for ‘multiboxing’ live on stream (which is allowed) and what got SOME people mistakenly banned in the first place, and why people think that plain ‘multiboxing’ is bannable.

I don’t recall hearing that he was actioned for false reporting, either for the “squelch test” incident or for what you’re talking about regarding his reporting of multiboxers. Maybe he was, I just don’t follow him that closely.

The sad reality is some people really think this fool is someone worthy of trust and that he knows things. It is the streamer culture, unfortunately. And there will always be people who fall for it.

He literally was running around with his posse, saw a multiboxer picking an herb with his party and used the reporting tool and all he typed was ‘multiboxing’.

Yes. While a Silence is a social penalty, a suspension means you can’t actually play at all. The penalty for abusing the report system is an actual game suspension. Which is what he got after they reviewed his auto Squelch (based on large volumes of reports - designed for gold spammers). For privacy reasons Blizzard won’t discuss individual accounts.

Ah, I didn’t know that he was suspended. Well, looks like the system works then, if people who false report or are abusing the report system receive punishments.
