Why does reporting spam wipe out the entire chat window history? That’s really annoying.
Could not say, maybe by bug, maybe by design.
So you’ve noticed it too?
Yes, then again just googling it shows it has been the exact behavior for some time.
It doesn’t normally wipe out the entire chat window, it just puts a big gap between what was happening and what is now happening.
When I report spam I right-click Trade or General move it to a new window before reporting.
I’ve only noticed it removing communications from the individual I’ve reported, which I expect is a feature.
If that is not the functionality you’re experiencing, and if you feel the functionality does not match what may reasonably be expected, please consider creating a bug report.
If, on the other hand, the functionality is inappropriate to your needs but otherwise seems correct, please consider constructing a suggestion.
The actual reporting works as normal. The offending player’s chat is removed. What I’ve seen is that there is a gap in Trade or General after you report. It’s not that the other chat is gone, it’s just further up the chat display than it was before the report. I move chat to another window so that all I’m seeing is that channel. Then if there’s a gap it’s easier to find the conversation again. It also doesn’t happen every time. It’s possible an addon is causing this.
Definitely not just the reported person. It wipes everything. Not all the time. Just sometimes. It’s annoying.
Its wipes a certain amount, not all of it. Noticed it since WOD and in classic, I think it’s by design to wipe all their messages.
Since it’s a design issue and not a CS issue you’ll either wish to use the in game suggestions feature to express your annoyance, or the Bugs forum if you believe that it’s not working as designed.
But it’s not a C S issue
I just tested this. It moved all the other chat comments way up in the display like you said. Like before all the messages from the dungeon we completed earlier. Really weird.
Well, reporting tonight did the same thing. Wiped the whole chat. Earlier it worked fine. And this time, it wasn’t even just scrolled all the way up high. Hope they get this fixed soon.
Ok, but this is not a bug report forum, and I don’t think this is a bug. Just a hint, when you switch characters, your pet list is the same on the same battle net account.

Yeah… wouldn’t let me follow my own post with the follow up so I had to jump to a dummy character.
Anyway, I did send the bug report. And later last night, it did what Ruffles reported… moved it all way up to the top of the scroll, ahead of the stuff from the last dungeon run. I just don’t get why it behaves differently at different times. Maybe that’s partly why they’ve had difficulty getting it fixed.
