Reporting Character

I’ve never been reported for anything before, a random rogue in Goldshire came to me, level 29, wanted me to duel her. I am a level 65 paladin. I won the duel, she said she was going to report me for hacking… should I be worried? I don’t see how I would get in trouble.

Thank you, I literally hit two buttons. I won because of the level.

We can report each other all day long but unless u breaking the rules chat or other wise nothing will happen threatening to report is a scare tactic.

No. Someone can use the reporting option if they want, but that doesn’t mean anything will happen. The report may result in an investigation but that investigation generally has to result in a violation being verified. If there isn’t a violation found, no action will be taken.

If things happened as you described, I don’t either.

I don’t know about that. I remember once in trade chat on horde side a long time ago, this player was always boasting about having family and friends that worked at Blizzard. He would constantly rage bait in chat, goading them into replying so he can report them.

So one day, I took the bait, and I called him a dookie head (keeping it clean) and then less than 24 hours later I was actioned (warned) by Blizzard. It made me think, do a few players out there have that kind of influence?

Thankfully, we understand it quite well.

So you broke the rules and got reported. That’s exactly how the system is designed to work. It wouldn’t have mattered who reported you either. Next time, don’t ‘take the bait’.

The warning is not an account action, if that is what you are talking about. It just means a few people (unique accounts) in-game reported you. The system lets you know you got reported so that maybe you can stop whatever it is, but nothing happens beyond that unless it reaches a real GM AND that GM decides you did something wrong.

* I received a warning notice for my behavior in World of Warcraft but I don’t deserve it

  • I’m not sure why I received a warning, please help remove the warning

If you are reported several times in World of Warcraft for violating the in-game rules, the game will send you a warning letting you know that you will need to be careful or you may get a silence or suspension in game. This is completely automated and cannot be seen or modified by Customer Support. If you receive one of these warnings, it is recommended that you make sure you are adhering to the In-Game Code of Conduct.

If your warning leads to a silence or suspension, you can submit an appeal and Customer Support will be able to review the reports that were made against your account.

Be careful with that. Being toxic, name calling, and insulting can result in penalties if reported. It is not just profanity, masked profanity, slurs, sexual content, etc. It can be some of the mild stuff too depending on if it is reported and what was said.

Also, that trade chat troll was lying. Don’t fall for it. Nobody (ok 99% of people) who has family or friends at Blizzard is stupid enough to talk about it, esp in trade chat.

No player likely has that type of influence, but the thing is chat reports are super easy to make, and they are super easy to judge by GMs. If you let someone bait you they don’t need any special access, they can simply right click and report. The message then gets queued up with all the chat logs, it also doesn’t matter if they baited you or not, if you violated the code of conduct you would get action on. The GM will have visible evidence of your violation, and can just approve the action, or give you warning.

They also likely wont review the other person, unless you reported them, assuming they also violated the code of conduct, but I would guess they did just enough to not cross the line. That said, their text could cross into the toxic area, but unless you reported them also, no action would be taken, and again, these types of actions are easy to judge since the GM gets a copy of all the persons text. No research is needed.

Assuming the player was telling the truth, which seems unlikely. We take abuse of position and the tools that our staff have access to very seriously.

Simply put. No. Players can report chat they believe may violate policy. Those reports may go up for review and if chat violations are found, then a penalty may be applied.

Depending on how long ago that happened (and the person you’re responding to said it happened a long time ago), it may have been an actual Warning warning (as in, getting an e-mail and all that jazz), not the modern Behavior warning that pops up in-game.

That said: OP, you’ve got nothing to worry about. It’s probably the level 29 being salty that they lost a duel and somehow missed the fact that you’re 36 levels above them.

Yes, it was a warning sent via email, stating my account name and reason.

This was a long time ago, probably during Warlords of Draenor or early Legion.

Thing with warnings after a report, if the investigation finds you did nothing then there won’t even be mention of it on your account information for them to see.

As long as you have done nothing to receive action against you, you’re not going to suffer any adverse consequences of said report and never will. Enjoy exploring Azeroth, and occasionally take a breath and touch grass, the game will be here tomorrow.
