Reporting a player

this is probably the completely wrong forum, but I’ve reported this player numerous times in game and nothing has been done. so if a CS rep can see this and swing the banhammer hard on this person that would be great. has been posting in the Newcomer Chat advertising carry services for a 3rd party website. as said, have reported multiple times myself in the last few days, as have others, yet they still post. please ban them.

The ONLY way to report him or her is to right click/report the line of text in-game. There are no GMs on the forums and the Support Forum Agents do not take reports of in game violations.

Unfortunately, these “services” are run typically by criminals looking to steal credit card info and wow accounts so that they can continue pushing their illicit activities.

This is one of the best reasons to right-click and report for spam. The more people that do it consistently, the faster that each account they use gets squelched and then suspended until the actual account holder can regain control of it.

It may seem like Blizzard isn’t doing anything, but these types of reports take time. If they were to ban this one account, another will just pop up. So, rather than play whack-a-mole banning individually, these types of bans are usually done in waves with multiple accounts being banned at the same time. Rather than get the small fish, they’ll follow the trail and not only get those small accounts, but the bigger controlling entities. Sometimes, even players that actually use the services will be caught in the waves.

Also note these people will at times delete the character they are currently using to advertise. Then remake the same name on a new account or use one with a very similar name and start up advertising again. Mean while you think nothing was done and that is what they want you to think.

Keep reporting them, Keep reporting for language! Enough reports and they get squelched.

Generally speaking, this is more the case when it comes to things like botting. Illicit activities like gold selling and “boosting” services for real money, those are shut down as reports come in. That’s the whole reason the right-click report for spam option was introduced in the first place.

Once enough reports come in, it flags the account with a squelch automatically (which prevents further chat) and requires a GM to look at it. If it’s gold sales or other illicit activities, the account is typically banned until the real account holder appeals the ban and figures out how their account got hacked.

Another technique they use is buying new accounts with stolen credit cards. They buy up as many as they can until the card gets locked.

In both cases, the accounts are just throw-away accounts for these criminals.

this is exactly the same name.

so you’re saying I should be reporting for spam and not advertising?

Advertising is more for in game services now, not advertised in the channel that was made for it. Spam is a good option.

Then they are deleting and making the name on a new account! No way the account will stay all that long.

Yes report for language Spam

except it’s not being advertised in the channel that was made for it. it’s being posted in the newcomer channel

Which is actually the reason to use the “Advertising” flag. I think you did the right thing.

I mean, you can select multiple reasons for chat violations. So you can hit both spam and advertising. When I’m reporting the level 1 boost/carry advertisers, I use both options.
