Reporting a known forum troll

Not sure where to post this but it’s getting quite ridiculous at this rate. The Classic community over on the Classic General Discussion is getting really tired of a serial troller/poster. How can we as a community try and put a stop to this?

You’d report them and let the mods handle it.

And not by placing their names on the forums like this as it isn’t really needed. The CS forum isn’t for reports and can’t really be seen as the main/only way to report someone.

If the person is violating the forum code of conduct you can flag the post for moderator review. Somewhere between 3-5 posts will cause a post to be greyed out (but clickable) until a Mod gets to it.

Keep in mind that not everything disagreeable is “trolling”. We also have an Ignore feature on the forums for people who you just never want to see a post from again.

To do that click their avatar picture then in the top right use the drop down menu to change it from Normal to Ignored.

Looking at the one thread on Classic by [someone you are concerned about] that is current - it may be an unpopular opinion (which can be an attempt to bait people) but I don’t see any rules violations skimming it. Even chronic complainers have a right to post. They don’t need to get any attention for it though if you want to put them on Ignore

This is your best bet. If they aren’t violating the CoC, I suggest putting the person on ignore.

If their profile is hidden, then click on your avatar in the upper right hand corner, tap on the person icon, go into the preferences and go to users. Add them, pick a time frame and hit save.

Also just to emphasize the point, you really do want to remove their name before a moderator gets to it before you. A player’s reputation is certainly something to be cautious of as part of the classic experience, but I’m afraid that does not count on the forums as well and I’m certain you wouldn’t want to run afoul of a possible forum sanction in the process.

Removed that now, thanks.

Thing is unless they are breaking the forum code not much can be done. As long as they have posting rights they can be as they see fit. If you think they are violating the forum code then report them. You can also put them on ignore, They can still post but you wont see what they say.

  • Report: Click on the little blue flag on the bottom right of the post, and select the most appropriate reason for report (Usually trolling would go as innapropiate.)
  • Ignore the user: Place the user on ignore through their profile. If they have set there profile to hidden, you can enter your forum profile settings, head over to user, and manually add them in there to the ignore.

Keep in mind, not everything would be deem as trolling. Even a disagreement is not exactly trolling. This is all though up to Blizzard to determined if the user is trolling or not. But Report, and Ignore and don’t engage with the user.
