a shepherd Alrighty, so I need some clarification here, if you don’t mind. I am going to guess it’s this RP addon I wrote back in BFA – because I cant recall ANY in-game conversations of note in months – So I am a bit confused why this is an issue now.
Said addon makes jokes in /say when I get hit with cc, or land kills in pvp (currently playin holy pal atm so that doesn’t happen often).
Few examples (After landing 3 killing blows in pvp):
- “Were you shocked when you found out that toaster was not waterproof?”
- “I’m sorry, and I apologize, usually mean the same thing… EXCEPT at a funeral.”
- “I hate peer pressure AND YOU SHOULD TOO!”
Now, while I’m not gonna claim originality for all 340 different dad jokes that can pop up, I wouldn’t have thought them to be an issue to begin with…
When it comes to getting cc’d, I had to get a bit more creative due to specific naming conventions. There’s also a 30 second “cd” so it doesn’t constantly go off – what with how much cc is in this game… AHEM
So, few examples (and I have 3-5 replies for any single spell so as to avoid being repetitive):
- Priest, you ever wonder why it’s called Psychic Scream and not Irritable Vowel Syndrome?
- Sorry, Shaman but your Lightning Lasso will NEVER be as electric as me~
- That’s one diminished Hammer of Justice. They have a pill for that, ya know?
And if its not this, you have me at a total loss… So, if you could please be forthcoming with the details, what am I dealing with here?
Could very well be people are reporting what your addon is saying. That does not mean any thing will happen because someone reported them

Honestly, stuff like that, is very irritating. Especially if it keeps happening over and over again.
It just clogs up the chat and annoys people. So, you’re gonna get reported. I’d chill with it, honestly.

Well, firstly, it’s in /say, which means its very localized, and only pops up maybe twice a minute if we assume combat is non-stop (which it usually isnt).
As for annoying people – would you believe I have made multiple irl acquaintances because it starts conversations? lol
That’s every 30s, that’s a lot honestly. I’d change the cooldown on it to be every couple of minutes honestly.
I hate when people have add-ons that announce stuff in Say, like if they do an interrupt or something. I can get it for an organized group, but lfrs and the like just don’t need it and I honestly don’t care that you did X.

Come to think of it, I don’t see this too often anymore. Do you think people get reported for it?
Anyone can report any chatlines. It’s very different if the GMs agree with it or not and action the account.

Yes, because it’s silly and serves no purpose beyond letting your fellow players know you are an annoyance.

I often get compliments for it actually.
But the people who don’t like it probably just report you rather than telling you, so I wouldn’t rely on that bit of anecdotal data.

What you’re doing, whether “offensive” or not, is spam and definitely actionable.

I am not so sure. I wrote the addon back in BFA, pvp often enough to obtain 2100+ in DF and 2400+ in Tww (only mentioning to point out how often I pvp), and this has not been an issue until this late in s2 of Tww.
So, I think if it was an issue of spam, "Bur kek reh lok!” (or w/e common translates as to an orc) would have probably gotten me a warning back during the pandemic.
Blizzard has made reporting a lot easier, and severely escalated penalties compared to what it was in BFA. So I wouldn’t count on that. If you continue spamming you’re eventually gonna get suspended.
But you do you, you’ve been warned and it’s no skin off my nose if you get suspended.

You almost seem to have posted here in hopes of being told, “your add-on sounds hilarious, and don’t worry about being actioned.” But it seems like you got the warning that you can get when you’ve been reported by people who do not find your add-on to be a positive addition to their gaming experience. If your question is, can the use of this add-on possibly result in my being actioned, the answer is yes.
It doesn’t matter what percentage of people enjoy your add-on or become irl friends with you because of it. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve gone without annoying someone enough to get reported. That is all moot if enough people consider it spam or inappropriate, they report it, and Blizzard agrees in its assessment.

The goal is to figure out what the exact issue is, and then correct it - if that is what you are asking… if its an issue of content, soften it, if its an issue of spam reduce the frequency, etc.
Am also curious why this is only an issue all of a sudden, after all this time.
Spam. Reduce or eliminate it. People get tired of addons that spam nonsense text into the chat screen. It is not even something helpful like an intturupt notification - which also get reported for spam when they are used in the wrong raid type.
Because they now have a warning system that tells you other players are reporting you. That system did not exist in BFA. You just plain got reported and eventually a GM reviewed and actioned the account if needed.
Note, that warning system is hit or miss on delivering the messages. Sometimes it just queues them for months and delivers them all at once when you switch game versions. It is a bit buggy like that.

I see. It can be hard to know why exactly someone took issue in this case. The content appear to make sexual jokes, so that could be offensive. It could also spam in certain situations. The truly safest thing to do is not to use it, but if you really want to continue, you could try purely tame jokes and only have it go off once or twice a match or something? Even with those tweaks, I’m just a fellow player and cannot be certain that would prevent any action if people still found it annoying.
