Replace WG with Tol'Barad, any thoughts?

Out of all the world zones, TB was one of my favorite and WG without resilience is well, not great. Offense rarely wins, while defense is almost a guaranteed. I see so many people just immediately leave that it is unreal. It would be nice to see either it get swapped out or removed for other world zones, or new ones at that. On a side note, why was strands of the ancients removed? Couldn’t find any solid information on it and that place, I miss!

I’m okay with TB being introduced. It would be preferable if they just did an update to bring some level of play that is balanced. Rather than a D/O concept we go towards the AV/Ashran/IotC concept or possibly do a Strands of switching from D to O during a phase. Pitting one team as a D or O already creates a situation where it’s imbalanced. Either it’s symmetrical or the sides flip.

That is what I enjoyed about Strands personally, how it switched from D to O. My thoughts if WG would be kept is rather than successful D or O. Swap it to at least where 10 mins to attack, 10 mins to defend. See who gets the furthest.

epics are more about strategy and tactics than being a game like capture the flag. because of that, you don’t always want a symmetrical map or game.

AV is a tower dive then rush, Ashran is resources, Conquest is strategy, WG is RNG. I agree that epics SHOULD be strategy and not zerg, however, only one of the above fits the pattern correctly and is tuned properly. When was the last time you saw all four towers needed in AV, or the boss defeated in Ashran?

This is a good idea but I think they’d still need to give offense a chance with some changes. Unless walls counted as some sort of points and then went with that…maybe.

I’d love to see your idea and it working though it’s a very good idea.

well you need to use the map and strategize a boss kill in ashran. WGE did it the first week of SL and can do it if needed, however there no point to killing the boss as they took the conquest box away for a boss kill, so its better to farm honor on the bridge.

AV has lots of ways it can be played, zerg games are not even fun, turtle up and go tower by tower, by the time you get to the boss, they only have 50 or less resources, you get far more honor and have far more fun than simple zergs.

WG Atk vs WG Def is RNG on how oyu get them, but each still has its own strategies and plays. you also shouldn’t think of them as 1 singular bg like strand. WG Atk is a bg. Wg Def is a bg. if you get attack, you need to strategize for attacking.

Its just the dominant factor for players though, I stay through O or D. I enjoy the fights, enjoy the siege, and the honor you get alongside it. A lot leave immediately though, see they’re on O and afk out in hopes of AV or Ashran for easier honor. The 15 min debuff doesn’t deter them, granted, that is not the players I would want to formulate a strategy with. They are all different the same as the regulars but WG is broken on numerous levels.

That doesn’t make sense when achieving balance and attempting ‘Epic’ levels of tactics & strategy. Symmetry provides balance. Tactics/Strategy are found in BG formats even in Arena. I don’t get your understanding at all.

play AV 1000 times and you will. your lack of understanding is one you just need to go experience to clear up and not one i can solve with words i think.

That doesn’t clarify your point as to why symmetry can’t exist in an Epic BG format. Playing X number of AV matches is just gate keeping. Should I link all of my characters across the span of twelve years to refute the fact you have zero standing? Acting as if I’m the authority for all things PvP related.

Goal posting doesn’t serve anything to this conversation.

no, im saying there is understanding there for you to learn that i can’t quite put into words, you just have to experience it for yourself.

I’ve played well over 1000 games of AV. I achieved Marshal back in Vanilla. So what’s your argument? Just another Joker poster “You wouldn’t get it.”?

not on that toon you haven’t. and not the epic version of AV. for most of wow’s history AV was a zerg rush so it fit in with the other randoms in the 15 minute game paradigm.

epic av has been truly epic, with all the old stuff people talked about happening, wolfriders, elemental summons, turtles, and clutch wins. and thats just AV, we have 3 other maps.

i haven’t seen joker. or the last star wars. i’ll never watch that one.

but anyway, play enough and you realize that what epics does differently is the strategy and calls, one person is generally leader and for them if the team is playing right, its like a real life RTS game, they give orders to go take a node, and a team either takes it or they dont, and then the leader adapts. that ability to play properly is what wins epics and why map symmetry does not matter. a good team wins from any direction or faction.

Yeah, I played during Vanilla and hit Marshal. I remember farming wolves to summon the Ram riders to break out of turtle matches on the AV bridge and using my AV hearthstone to turn in said materials rather than getting stuck in SFGY. I also recall blasting people through hills at SPGY or 5v1ing during a bunker defense. Back when people were pretty bad and could be fought naked.

I’ve played this game since 07/08. I’ll post a picture of my unleveled Hunter as proof. I lost the taste for playing Hunter during TBC when it turned into drain comps and the deadzone was still in effect which made the game boring for “Rated” content.

I loved the classic AV structure, it was amazing. Organize to send ram riders, protect the druids, defend while also on the offense. It was a much better time in my opinion. WG as a world zone was good due to the tenacity / resil. I don’t remember it’s particular name where one party was buffed as they held it for x amount of sequences, but in a BG you do not have that. In SL, I have never lost a Defend match and only one a single Offense match. Isle of Conquest is quite well built, it needs tuning only slightly. Ashran would be nice if more emphasis was on the summonings, ogre, and the eye of power - instead of it being a reinforcement win / mage defend and kill their mage. It limits strategies extraordinarily. I typically still 2 tower tank AV because it is easiest done that way. WG, I just hope I am attacking or try to organize caps / builds. Ashran, you do you. There is a lot of work that could be done and if it would be looked at as a possibility, just temporarily remove what is broken and add Tol’barad or something in its place. I would LOVE to see even more battlegrounds with unique experiences added, but we already have some just sitting in a locker not being used.

I believe it can but not necessarily will. In some cases it just provides both teams the same generic strategy, in others such as SotA historically, it allowed people to try to do what worked best for them or even learn from the prior match and apply it to theirs.

Any battleground with vehicles or cannons on it is just stupid.

They would probably “accidentally” do what they did last time to Tol Borad and the horde would have a massive advantage near the entrance. Human NPCs wouldn’t react but the trigger radius for the horde NPCs would stretch right to the entrance road.
Oh, they would eventually fix it, like Korrak’s, where all of the horde NPCs literally had DOUBLE the health of Alliance NPCs.

I could TOTALLY get on board with this idea!
