I have made it to renown 42 on Venthyr. I am doing every quest I can find on the maps. Nothing seems to be giving the opportunity to advance. And since I cannot make renown 44, I am locked out of Korthia. Is there some secret gate they build into this game to stop you cold?
we get 2 renown a week atm
Renown is capped at 42. Not sure what you mean to bee 44 for the new zone

You get drip fed content because they think it will help maintain sub #s.

I didn’t hit 42 until after getting to Korthia .
Matter of fact one of the quests to get to 42 renown is in Korthia .

I’m pretty sure we get drip fed content so people aren’t encouraged to play for multiple days without sleeping, completing all the content in a couple days, and making a huge gap between the average guy then complaining theres nothing to do ^.^

If you are at 42 renown there is no way you don’t know how it works by now. 0/10 and I’d award negative points if I could.

Who cares, its not a common practice in other mainstream MMOs. They present their patch worth of story up front, expect you to play and come back later when theres more content. Or they make their content robust enough to have different forms of engagement (FFXIV/ESO is a good example with crafting/housing)
Its unequivocally apparent that it is there to extend the shelf life of WoW, but ultimately I bet its hurting it.
Renown is timegated weekly 2 reknown more each is the cap until we reach 80 for now. Thats like 20 weeks to get 80 reknown or like 5 ish months.
You only need renown 40 to get to Korthia. Did you just ignore the questline that unlocks it?

Wow used to function like those MMOs too. I prefer the initial gate and having it taken down later. If you prefer degenerate gameplay go ahead
The current renown cap is 42. It won’t increase to 44 until next week. As for Korthia access, that doesn’t even require Renown 40 to access (my main was only at Renown 38 when they went there and got to Renown 40 in Korthia). So I’m not sure where you’re getting the idea that you’re unable to access Korthia unless you’re Renown 44.
You should already have the quest ‘The Highlord Calls’ in your quest log, unless of course you haven’t done the Torghast quest chain that has you rescue Baine, Jaina, Thrall and attempt to rescue Anduin. That needs to be completed first.

You can’t get 42 renown without going into Korthia.
I can’t speak for ESO, but FF gates the crap out of the gear.
The problem with wow currently is the power and story systems are intertwined. So gating the power is gating the story.
If they were to separate that and give you the story up front, the two games wouldn’t be much different on that front.
As the subs go down more renown shall be unlocked.

Part of renown is a soft nerf for new content.
The soulbinds unlock new power at various levels, and as we unlock those we get more power making new content easier.
I just wish it didn’t gate the non-progression content as much.
I want to start leveling my new companions!
Don’t even need Anduin. I lost interest after Thrall, but I was already renown 40 and got straight in.
