Renaming Warlock Pets in WoW Classic?

Does anyone know if the old /script PetAbandon; method will work for renaming summoned demons in Classic? I’ve seen blog posts mentioning that this method worked back in Vanilla and I really hope it will still be functional.

Demons are sentient creatures that have existed far longer than the mortal races, let alone your pitiful warlock. What makes you think you have the power, let alone the right, to change their names?

Going by your logic, warlocks did have the power and the right to change their names back in Vanilla though.

It was a feature back then so I don’t see why it shouldn’t be back in for Classic…

I mained a warlock for some time in Vanilla. I never knew of this. I remember many people not liking their minions names. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not saying it wasn’t there, but this is the first I heard of it. Sounds a bit fishy that you would be able to do that actually. Why would Blizzard later put the option in the game to pay to summon another minion in the hopes of a better name if there was another way to do it before?

Lol, loved this response by the way.

As far as I know the option to pay a demon trainer to summon a new demon with a different name was added in a later expansion. Assuming that feature isn’t present in Classic, I don’t see any harm in being able to use the PetAbandon script to get a shot at a better name, especially since the only alternative is to remake your character and start back at level 1 (which is pretty rough if you don’t like your Felhunter’s name).

Yeah, that was kind of my point, but I guess I didn’t clarify it too well. The option to pay to abandon your minion in hopes of a better name was definitely added later on in another expansion, that wasn’t in Vanilla.

As I said, I had not ever heard of this script back then personally and I wouldn’t trust using it. That would be a question for Blizzard if that would possibly be against their terms and some type of exploit. It might be perfectly fine to do, but the reason it sounds fishy to me is what I said before. If a simple script was useable in the game to do this, why would they later add an NPC with the option to pay and abandon your minion? It just don’t add up for me, but I could be wrong.

I wasn’t a fan of all my minions names back then either but I grew to love the very odd names they had lol.

They didn’t. You were stuck with what the RNG gave you.

Blizzard is not going to ban someone for renaming their voidwalker

It isn’t changing the name, it’s abandoning the demon altogether and summoning a new one, who doesn’t know how little you pay and how much overtime you’re always demanding, like that boss in Office Space only without the 80s glasses.

Nothing says you can’t give him unofficial and unflattering nicknames.

If renaming that voidwalker was done by using some type of action that Blizzard doesn’t allow, then yes, they would ban, at least temporarily.

I used that trick to rename 2 of my demons back in vanilla, but I do recall they removed it at some point.

That’s your first mistake right there. You are assuming you aren’t the unimportant one.

Half the fun of warlocks is the rng of what demon names you get.

So was it allowed then? Honestly curious about that. If they removed it, I would assume it was because they weren’t ok with it.
