I’ve lost count of how many people in these threads disagree, I say something that’s either an opinion (or earlier in this thread I literally stated a fact) or otherwise and then they call me a hypocrite, bully, fraud and disingenuous and then proceed to flip the table saying they refuse to discuss any further. Very lovely people full of joy.
Oh that’s just Attimis. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single post from him that wasn’t just outright insulting whoever he’s responding to, whether he’s arguing with them or not
Yea it’s more that he isn’t the only one that’s kind of astounding.
Are already perfectly doable without a hunter pet as MM.
I didn’t realize it was possible to die in solo world combat anymore. Even when stuff lives long enough to hit you, nothing really does that much damage.
Cool.
Not really no. Pets are particularly good at keeping players in combat. Unless there’s another tool being added to do that, which I’ve missed, that’s a pretty important piece of utility.
This is patently false. While a large chunk of the world can be handled without a pet to tank for you, many many of the ‘rares’ and elites cannot - especially while leveling or in ‘bleeding edge’ content.
Marks hunters deserve to have the choice
of a pet or not.
There are dozens of better suggestions within the various threads on how blizz could go about making the changes without completely destroying fantasy for a large portion of the hunter playerbase.
Just a few that I remember off the cuff:
- Use the “Special stable slot” to pick your pet. It just replaces the Eagle in all of the animations.
- A choice node with Lone Wolf where Lone Wolf is the “eagle” behavior and the other option is the current standard.
- A “Grimoire of Sacrifice” style talent where you slough the pet entirely in favor of these eagle mechanics.
For some of us there are 20 years of attachment to the Pet-style Marks hunter, and losing that is no small thing.
So is having several instant cast ranged attacks
That would have been true 15 years ago. Not so now. If you’re having trouble killing an overworld rare without a pet that’s a PEBKAC error
Pets are not affected by Line of Sight and have significantly more range than anything except for maybe a PVP talent. Unless these instant cast attacks are putting a 12 second indispensable (but vanishable) dot up then it’s a loss.
Go take on any of the boss rares on Siren Isle as Marks alone, with no other players nearby. Let me know how that goes for you. The squid in the thunderstorm is a good litmus test, but any of the cave “rares” work too.
Heaven forbid your class have a degree of counterplay
…did you unironically use boss rares specifically designed to be taken on as a group as evidence of hunter pets being necessary in general overworld gameplay? For my own sanity I have to assume you’re trolling
In terms of thematics, what is there to wait for?
All of them are currently soloable by any hunter spec.
My point here is - this changes a fundamental interaction in the game with Marks that wasn’t broken, but will be come 11.1.
falconry and hunting go hand in hand in many cultures
I dunno, I’ve been playing without a pet since they gave us Lone Wolf.
For me, that’s what Marksman was supposed to be, a “bowman” or a “ranger” without a pet.
Basically, you’re Legolas.
Anything that doesn’t put your pet in the dirt in 2 hits is doable without a pet. It’s an extremely rare circumstance that a mob is not strong enough to rip your pet apart but also be immune to at least some of your CC and survival tools
And even if it is the case that the Siren Isle rares fall within those circumstances, again, they are designed to be taken on with a group - being able to solo them with a pet is the exception, not the rule
Sure. They actually DID add many Class specific abilities rather than spec specific in SL. A fury warrior doesn’t suddenly forget what a shield is, it’s just not optimal.
Blizz learns and then forgets lessons all the time, best to call it out when we see it.
I for one look forward to seeing the new ability visuals and sounds - as it stands MM just feels underwhelming, none of their abilities feel like they have any meat to them
Whether the eagle changes that or not we’ll see, but if it’s not working now might as well try something new…
They’ve also learned that when people ask for an RP option to be added, and it ends up being bad, they get a ton of complaints about it.
See: Single Minded Fury.
Some players actually do get what they want, than there are players like myself don’t get anything in 20 years. Alot of nerfs and heart breaks.
Now maybe with a Tinker class i might get something.
These threads are getting super spammy now.
A perfectly reasonable take.
Quite a few people could learn from your example sometimes, Brea.
Having a spotter is a VERY common part of the marksman fantasy, and in literal marksman fantasies, it’s pretty common for that to be a beast (often, but not always a bird).
Tyrande is probably the best example in WoW.
