FF14 handles gear indifference somewhat well. You can eventually get 636 ilvl but it won’t be BIS. You can only get that from the hard content. It also takes you a month or two more to get the ilvl, but you can get it.
I don’t remember anyone complaining about it over there either. Not that I went looking either.
Note for any folks: The above is just an example. No statement is being made that it would work here or not.
I think the biggest issue is that over time, we get more familiar, more knowledgeable, and just overall mo betta with time. As we get better, the challenge diminishes.
The carrot can always remain the carrot. Thatll be arbitrary and inconsequential, so long as it still remains to be chased.
“But the challenge of chasing needs to adjust to remain a challenge”

I wouldn’t disagree. 626 from delves is more than sufficient to smoke all the open world content in this game. Normal dungeons/raids, Time Walking, and LFR too.
I’m super ambivalent when it comes to who should be able to do what. On one hand, +10 was hard for me (Thanks to pugging, I had to carry hard enough but Im not a pro by any means). On the other, a delver can to pop into +10 or jump into Mythic raiding for the rewards. They still need the skill but that’s a reality we didn’t have before.
I’m not sure how I feel either way. I mean if they can get that high (Is it “high” to begin with?), then why not just put Mythic track in there?
Delves feel like they opened a dangerous slope for the game. A slope I don’t particularly have any strong feelings about.
I agree, I can’t even see it as an e-sport and I feel the experiment with it is a utter failure considering what it has and is doing to the community as a whole, and I am glad you got your flame shield activated because you are being reported for trolling even though I agree with you.
I think there are different tiers at some expected break points.
10s, 12s both I feel give noticeable jumps.
Higher than 12 and you start sliding into meta comps more often.
With infinite scaling, where the top end lies will always be a little different every season. So I dont look at the extreme top end on what should give player power rewards. But at a point that it can generally be expected any spec can accomplish such.
10s, through the vault, give very slightly better rewards than what you can get from spamming 8s, for example. 8s you may just be a little slower waiting on more sparks. To me, this is an acceptable trade off.
Edit : As a side note, I think crafted gear is very underrated. I am not sure people fully acknowledge it with conversations about gear and rewards.
I definitely don’t. I 100% slept on crafting out of ignorance. I have so many sparks I haven’t used.
I believe where I ultimately meant to go with my question is: where should mythic track and sparks really lie in regards to M+ (Or other content even)?
i would counter that the game probably wouldnt still exist now 10 years later if mythic+ didnt come about. i know i personally would have never kept playing if there was only leveling dungeons and raid.
If M+ is removed I would unsub. It’s my favourite end-game pillar and I wouldn’t want to support a company that removed it in favour of making content I’d complete once and never again.
