…as an option to buy currency in d4 and overwatch. this is affecting our game and cost to play the game. both of those trash heaps should have their own token systems. stop using our gold to let non wow gamers pay for other games. theres no reason why the token should be as high as it is.
Naw, remove currency that can be bought on the shops if this is true.
Edit: misread what you meant by currency, answer is still naw.
no game should have a token system, actually.
thats kind of impossible because the token can be turned into bnet balance. everything digital accepts bnet balance so they cant really restrict that part of it. esp because mounts and pets in the store are bnet balance. what they could do is remove the store completely and add those mounts into a vendor in the game. make them cost gold only.
Don’t remove them.
Gift them to me.
I want to buy Diablo, but I am poor
Agreed. WoW token should be for WoW stuff only.
Honestly it can be argued that it rather does, or perhaps could (especially depending on how release D4 pans out regarding currency) have a negative effect on WoW.
If WoW gold is a defacto universal Blizzard currency, fungible to anything that can be traded from the Battle.net balance, then there’s that much more incentive for players to hoard gold, or even to come and play WoW expressly for the purpose of farming gold to trade in to use elsewhere.
Besides the inflation factor, this strongly disincentivizes players from spending gold in bulk in general - and therefore, is likely to have an impact on players’ willingness to do content that is heavy on the gold expenditure side (think things like traditional progressive raiding).
And in fact, I have noticed that there seems to be a significant hollowing out of the Normal and Heroic raid scene over the last several years. I.e., if you look at say WoW Progress, an increasing proportion of guilds are Mythic, whereas under normal circumstances you would expect that Mythic guilds would be a small cohort at the apex, with most guilds doing Normal and/or Heroic, as I remember being the case in say, Legion. Instead (which seems to be borne out by experience, as the last time I was active in a large casual guild - we’re talking several hundred active players here - repeated checks for raid interest failed to get even the 10 bites needed to give it a try, and most players had not the courage to attempt higher than +6-7 or so keys even if a guild member asked if anyone wanted to go with. Pretty much the only people that did high end content were small KSM cliques that barely interacted with the rest of the guild) it seems like most sub-Mythic players have decided to pass even on the lower tier progress-style content and settle for open world content and Heroics/Epic BGs as needed for quests.
Could this be because of the Token? Have too many players wised up to the notion that their gold has effective USD value now and are therefore correspondingly less willing to venture it so readily - especially if it turns out that they have to BUY gold in order to afford consumes etc. if they’re not good at gold farming, while if they are, it’s an opportunity cost (at the least, they might be able to play WoW for free, and at best, they might be able to get D4 and perhaps things in it for free as well)?
this also encourages negative-impact activities like boosting and selling mount spawns. sure, its allowed, but its hurting the wow bubble economy by inviting anyone into the game who then sells these services to farm external commodities. hearthstone is also a big player in the wow tokens price because you can buy card packs with gold from wow.
If people aren’t able to purchase a legitimate token, there will be even more people purchasing illegal gold and services. As bad as bots can be now, they’ll be so much worse to keep up with supply and demand. More bots, more accounts being hacked and stolen. More headache all around.
The market is a booming one, no matter where people are getting their gold. At least with the tokens Blizzard can monitor their use and players safely purchase their gold or convert it to balance without risking their accounts to hacking or sanctions once they got caught participating in the engagement of illegal goods and/or services.
Agreed. It’s been downhill since the token was introduced. Being able to buy gold goes against everything an mmorpg is.
Funny stuff
How does it affect the static cost to play D4?
There’s a difference between the actual token and the gold spamming web sites that are usually not associated directly with the company.
How else am I to pay for wow sub Flippy has replaced me at my job and i love to play wow… also this combats against gold selling/rmt
That and people who multiboxed during WoD and ending the expac on 2-3 servers with 20-30mil gold on each then ye it definitely affects everyone else.
I have 36mil on stormrage myself and most of that is from WoD and Legion.
I never have to worry for sub and I have bought almost everything on Bnet as far as games and lots of cash shop stuff in other titles under bnet with that gold and it’s hardly put a dent in what’s left.
Yeah I think people have a hard time realizing that Blizzard could continue to allow players to pay their subs with gold, without attaching the real-money end onto it.
The only difference is one doesn’t benefit Blizzard so is therefore bannable and one does and is thus okay.
For the same reason buying gold from gold sellers is against ToS, same too should be the token.
It’s the epitome of hypocracy.
I slightly disagree.
The spam sellers in game tend to be from shadier sites that can open you up to all kinds of issues. At least with the actual token, there is less risk of issues with account ectera.
And not everyone who actually uses tokens uses them for carries. Alot of players use them as supplemental gold for things such as maxxing out heirlooms or dropping a good chunk into guild banks for repairs, as an example.
Sure there are people that use them for other things like carries but not everyone does.
No reason to punish other using them for what they decide too just because others think it effects every little things in the game or simply just don’t like the tokens .
I still wouldn’t call it a real benefit or justification tbh. More or less an excuse that makes the token look different from other MTX that allows you to buy currency/cash.
/sideeyes GTA online loan shark cards.
Report and ignore.
Heck, maybe i’l look into Postal or LeatrixPlus settings to see if it stops spam mail and only have it come from friends/guild.
“Listen, i know people will buy gold with real money to gain an advantage in raids and etc via by carries, but… they also do the same thing in leveling too with buying heirlooms! So it’s completely fine!”
