How ? Have you properly geared? Correct azerite? Do you randomly pop voidform or use it at the right time?
-its strong on world pve, can easy aoe grind stuff without issue
-on dungeon it requires good synergy with tank, so pugging is not recommanded. But really does well.
-Raiding all is fine, its semi mobile not too many hard long cast to do.
All your other class are other class. They are not priest, so your comparison cannot be used here. They do not play the same, they aren’t ramp up caster (except Affliction somewhat).
Well thats your choice, play what you enjoy.
All devs care for their game, its like their baby. That’s only a lame excuse used by angry players not liking a certain change or want something changed to fit “THEIR” own way first.
What? Huh? looks confused
You need to play the spec when you aren’t wildly outgearing the encounters. Up until 8.2, an AoE pull as Shadow on any of the current (here I’m defining “current” as “content introduced in the patch that you are playing in”) content was a literal death sentence. You don’t seem to know this, so I’ll explain why.
Your damage starts amazingly low compared to other classes. That lovely ramp.
Because of #1, the mobs live much longer compared to other classes (i.e. you take more damage)
You are wearing CLOTH and have less armor that MANY of the other classes (i.e. take more damage)
Your sole defensive cooldown STOPS you from casting spells and tanks your damage output (i.e. the mobs live longer and you take more damage)
Your have two crowd control effects. Shackle undead is probably one of the most limited CC’s in the game. Psychic scream is good but has an unfortunate tendency to call in reinforcements unless you pull stuff well away from everything else.
You can’t escape combat except by running until the mobs give up; your only movement enhancement is Body and Soul, which directly competes with Intangibility, the only “oh sh**” button you have.
And the icing on the cake, because of your limited mobility, you can’t even maintain void form between pulls by moving to get in range of new targets. Moving requires you to stop pressing any button other than Power Word: Shield, Shadow Word:Pain, or Void bolt.
Shadow has HUGE problems with world PvE. Yes, you can pull most of the mobs 1 at a time during current content. You can pull two, MAYBE three mobs if you have enough insanity from the last fight to go into void form at the start of the fight, or VE/Dispersion* (requires Intangibility, otherwise you’re just delaying the inevitable) is up.
At the same point in the expansion (where I’m pulling 1-3 mobs on my priest), my ret pally with equivalent ilvl gear can pull 3-5 mobs on EVERY SINGLE PULL. By the time you’ve looted and moved over to the next group, Wake of Ashes coming back off of cooldown. If I have an “oh sh**” moment because of unintentional adds, I have a bunch of tools at my disposal (wings, bubble, protection, etc) and have a reasonable chance of burning the stuff down and surviving the pull. NONE of my “oh sh**” buttons on my paladin reduce my DPS output aside from the GCD required to activate them (and Lay on Hands is off the GCD, too).
Everyone here on the forum saying #removevoidform knows this, because we’ve had to deal with this for two straight expansions in a row, and we know that “its happening … again”. But really, voidform isn’t the only reason that the world PvE experience is bad (although it is probably the worst of them; if we could kill them before they kill us, with equivalent pull sizes to other classes, a lot of the other faults wouldn’t be as glaring); the rest of the class design has a lot to do with it too.
I’ve done it aoe style without issue… it wasnt hard. This is just like at the start of BFA, you had some spriest saying they have hard time leveling while those that knew the proper tricks did it easy.
It wasn’t hard, you didn’t need the CD, you could easily AoE.
You gotta use the right talents. I ve lvled with SW:V / San’lay / Misery / Aus or Shadow crash… and it would always be 5 ish mob… vamp was there as a back up. But the mobs would die fast as soon I pop void. Once I got more geared I replaced San and kept it at Aus Spirit.
You got to stop comparing yourself to other classes, you are NOT that class, you are a priest. Just by checking forums everyone keep doing so… demanding to have the same thing… at the end we should all have 1 class only in the game if we followed those.
Do you seriously think that I didn’t actually look at every talent and azerite trait (available to me) and choose the ones that I felt would improve our up front damage and survivability for solo content? Do you think I just blindly looked at the guide for raid builds and copied that?
You see, this is the reason someone’s already called you out as a troll. Now I’m calling you a troll. Choosing the “right” talents certainly makes things better, it allows those 2-3 pulls that I already talked about, to work.
Also, I wish the forum going public in general would STOP saying “You are NOT (insert class here), you are a priest, just suck it up and live with the fact you perform poorly”.
Literally any other class can pull more, dps faster, and has far superior burst.
We’re not asking to be exactly like x class. We’re asking to be somewhat on par with them in terms of performance
There is absolutely no benefit to having a ramp up mechanic. It gives us zero benefit while artificially throttling our damage for “fantasy” reasons.
If we could ramp beyond normal dps then sure, it would have a payoff. But the flood of tears when that happened (Eternal Palace) got us nerfed because apparently you all couldn’t stop comparing yourselves to priests.
So everyone else can’t accept that they’re NOT a shadow priest, but we have to? What a silly argument
If you hate it, then hate it, that is your opinion and that is fine.
But because “you” hate it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for others.
You are free to come on the forums and state your opinion about a certain change, give feedback or ideals on how to improve by your standards… but you need to stop assuming it doesn’t work because you couldn’t do it or because you do not enjoy it.
You have to accept that not every class is the same, that the game will always change / evolve, that some variation will have people hate or love it. You can’t please everyone.
It’s sad for you, because you’ve ended up in the dislike club, but there’s still many that loves it and enjoy it.
I truly enjoy voidform and how it works, I’m good with its dmg… it is fine, it is within the numbers. Sure it has some little flaws on which it can improve but it does work in all content.
The team at Blizzard is also trying to help you to enjoy this more without removing voidform (Which would simply replace you with another one that love voidform and want it back). They may not have “The” solution yet with Devouring plague, but you can’t deny they aren’t trying. So you can do your part, and do send them some suggestion / ideas on how it could work… and no saying “Remove voidform” is not a suggestion nor any idea, nor does it help anyone.
PS. Calling people troll is such an old thing, maybe it’s time to grow up and accept that not everything that is against you or with a different opinion is a troll. Reporting for trolling when it doesn’t suit you is just a bad sign on your part.
EDIT: Still don’t have an answer to this… It just confuses me how some people are so adamant they want something to stay that from my PoV only serves to make them worse at anything and everything they want to do.
That’s the problem with voidform. For it to be good at its niche, shadow has to have better average DPS than every other class and Blizzard won’t allow that. We get all the downsides of the ramp, without the upside.
This is not opinion. Ramp up brings absolutely no benefit to any spec because they will never be allowed to ramp up past other specs
You do the same damage as other specs, but just take 3 times as long to do it
It give ZERO benefit. It’s a fact, not opinion
So you weren’t using it when you said:
I’m confused. You tell us to not compare to other classes and just accept ours as is. Yet when we were outperforming everyone in EP, it’s ok for them to compare and not accept their classes as is?
So we can be complained about when outscaling everyone, but cannot ask to be brought up to par with everyone when we lag behind? (Because we will lag behind in Shadowlands)
