This thread…
In Classic the community should be able to sort those people out, though. If what a troll is saying goes way too far then the report should reach an actual GM who can even ban you if need be. That’s all the teeth that the system needs.
The point is that it shouldn’t be up to other players if I get squelched or not, because other players are vindictive.
Like I said in my first post in this thread: The report system is abused heavily in Overwatch to punish players for playing characters that the community has deemed “troll picks” and not because those players did anything wrong.
I think he was the one that was banned for sending harassing emails to other players.
And let me just put this here before people start exaggerating (aka lying) to try and make it seem like the game is unplayable while muted:
|You Cannot|
- Reply to Whispers from WoW Friends/Non-friends
- Talk in global channels (General, Trade, etc.) or Instance Chats (Raid, Party, Battlegrounds)
- Create Calendar Invites/Events
- Send in-game mail, party invitations to Non-friends, or War Game and Duel invitations
- Create a new listing or update a listing for a pre-made Group listing
- Speak in Blizzard Chat (including communities and Real ID
|You Can|
- See Whispers from WoW Friends/Non-friends
- Party/Raid Chat (with Invited friends)
- Talk in Global Channels that have a moderator
- Share Quests
- Sign up for a pre-made group
- Use Guild Chat

So yeah, enjoy your raids, guild chat, quest sharing and all that, even while muted. This is surgically designed to kick trolling and spammers in the nuts and they know it.
This is objectively false. Savix got banned for win trading. And yeah, he got DC’d in a battleground and said it was from right click reporting. But that wasn’t true, it was the GM IMPLEMENTED PUNISHMENT taking effect.
there is no evidence that he was win trading at 1600 rating. imagine getting beaten so hard that the enemy team reports you
Oh so he did something against the rules and blamed the system instead of taking responsibility for his own actions? Imagine that.
Its almost like I’m noticing a pattern when people claim the RCR system did something we KNOW it explicitly doesn’t do… hmmmm.
Oh wait so you mean the sky won’t fall and the only ones squelched will most likely deserve it?
Hopefully we see a couple examples made of those who try to abuse the system.
Offensive post - calling us babies! Reported!
( Tongue in cheek - just mocking it to make a point. )
heh if only that were going to be the case.
im still for more of the wild west type of free speech. but people would die in horrible pain from people saying the kinds of things they used to say in vanilla.
I remember the knock down, drag out, Vanilla forums arguments. They’d just be banned into the ground now.
RCR+Auto Squelch isn’t about stopping harassment or spam.
Those things could be more easily and effectively fixed by simply removing the arbitrary cap on the ignore list.
It’s how they’re combating chinese gold sellers. No tokens means they’re not undercutting the sellers, no CS means they’re not investigating gold transfers.
It’s another cost cutting measure made at the expense of us.
No, auto-squelch is about being proactive instead of reactive.
Yes, you can /ignore somebody screaming in /trade about how minorities are ruining the western world, or whatever, but people shouldn’t have to see that sort of garbage in their video game in the first place.
So instead of forcing everybody else to take responsibility and react to the idiot spewing garbage in /trade, auto-squelch puts the onus on the person it should be on in the first place: the idiot.
Yes, people still have to report the offender, but after the threshold is passed, at least nobody else has to be subjected to their nonsense.
TL;DR – Right-click report is better for the community than the people bemoaning it think.
I would like to say that I think right click report is not the most evil thing. I just think that there needs to be someone reviewing the reports before any punishment is dished out. Even if the punishment is “not a problem” as some people think. I actually have experienced an issue with automated punishment on this very forum.
On another thread we were discussing addons and if blizzard would break them or leave them. Someone said that blizz would just limit the code so that the addons wouldn’t work. I replied with
"like batman? “I dont have to break you!.. I just wont let you have the tools to function”
This is an obvious joke referencing the the batman begins movie. I received a forum silence for several days. I have opened a ticket about this.
Did you receive an email?
Nope. I just wasn’t able to post a reply to something and noticed the alert on my portrait and it said I was silenced.
" Hello,
This is an automated message from World of Warcraft Forums to let you know that your forum account has been temporarily silenced due to a violation of our Code of Conduct .
While silenced, you won’t be able to reply or create topics until the penalty expires.
It’s important for us to provide a civil and friendly environment on the forums, where all players can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts with each other. Additional policy violations may receive penalties of increasing severity up to and including a permanent ban from the forums.
If you would like to contest this forum action, please [submit a Customer Support request ]"
So even though I was offline for most of the silence I decided to question it.
Needs to be deleted from existence.
Maybe try checking your email again. Usually they do send you an email complete with a transcript of the post that got you silenced.
