Remove Rating Req for Arena Gear in WOTLK

Even top players agree that everyone should be on an even playing field. Better players already have the advantage of skill, why do they need a 2nd advantage?

If you guys don’t know, basically every slot of gear will require a certain rating in WOTLK. This means that boosting will be 10x more rampant, queuing into blizzcon players at 1600 mmr. Thousands more people will RMT which isn’t healthy for the game.

what is the advantage of shoulders? 5 stam or something?
whats the reward if u remove gear? a tabard and a mount that literally 99% of people wont hit. u think that will incentivize participation?

swipers will swipe anyway blizz has shown they dont care

I have all the gear and I’m still queuing

Still not seeing the issue with gear requirements. It’s always been a nice goal to strive for in the arena scene.

Now I’m not 100 percent for gating off pieces with requirements, but mainpieces I’m good with requirements.

The rating has always been the reward for ranked pvp in any game. When I hit Diamond in Street Fighter 5 I don’t unlock a new version of Ryu with more health and damage than the Ryu’s at Bronze I just get the rank.

I distinctly remember making a death knight (since they are easy to level from 1-55) level 70 twink and having the pvp gear bought with honor. I hope that they make s4 buyable with honor when wrath drops as it might be a fun thing to have.

I see both sides, but I really don’t think they should change.

They way they did it in Cata was best ngl

No.

Stop.

and Dont.

Stop what? Making a point on how backwards the ranked pvp in WoW has always been?

IMO the rating should be gone, and replaced with a higher cost.

This way people who are naturally better at arena can still get these items faster because they’re earning more points each week, and still get the ‘edge’ their skill level affords them, but people who aren’t so gifted can still eventually access the item, it just takes them longer because they can’t earn points as quickly.

You’d have to do a little math to figure out the proper cost for the higher rating item, but you can figure it out.

Another option would be two costs: Higher arena point requirement if you don’t meet the rating, and lower arena point requirement if you do meet the rating. So the reward for getting the appropriate rating for the item is that it costs 1000 less or something.

Tmog, bragging rights, mounts…and idk…fun? Ever wonder why arena tournaments allow players to get any piece they want? Because it’s a competitive setting where skill matters more than the MMO element itself.

talking about street fighter in a tbcc arena thread (which u dont even play)

and to above dude wait till shadowmourne then cry about gated pvp shoulders that give +3 stam lol.

raid items are way harder to get for pvp players, than pvp items are for pve players. u can arena any time u want with 1-4 friends, u cant just nab raid items whenever unless u swipe like a custy ofc

I would be completely fine with this I don’t think it adds anything and realistically if you’re a hardcore player people don’t consider 2000 arena reading anything anyway.

We should also remember that people capable of reaching 2k rating will stomp the 1500 rating players no matter what the gear is.

I wish you could buy season 3 and 4 gear now W it’s honor and just get rid of all the rating requirements.

I agree with this sentiment, but I htink the change should be even more radical.

Arena is to find the best pvper, not the person with the highest gear. Normalize gear in Arenas. Let BGs be where arena pvpers can flex their gear.

The whole game is backwards in the way it places value on things. Right now, harcore raiders fight to see who can beat up the same 10 year old fastest. What they should be doing is seeing who can complete the content with the largest handicap. Those are the better players, the ones who can do it without every advantage.

Speaking from someone that does play as a casual player actual player but did have a lot of fun in arena back in wrath.

My problem is it’s the fact that they have to do it now when people have a reason to play alliance you know what I mean because let’s be honest horde Rachel’s have been dominant so much more in PVP overall in the overall in tbc.

Yes you could make an argument that humans have humans had precision but I would say will if forsaken is so much stronger than precision is because that the end of the day position is only good because rogues and druids are so strong so strong precision doesn’t do a single thing against a warlock and will forsaken does.

And realistically do we really need to give people another reason to play hard You know what I mean

The few stats from 2 missing parts of gear won’t make a huge different in a skill battle.

Most definitely the hardcore players would absolutely agree with you but but for a casual player yeah if there’s no gear they won’t PVP however I’m very much in agreement with you I don’t think the game should be designed for the hardcore player so yes take out the rating.

That’s my thoughts on the matter
