Remove PVP Scaling

if you want scaling then you are no real pvper just a bad looking for a hand out

What’s even worse is you could have ilvl 445-450 characters and they would still get smoked by the ilvl 470-480 characters

WoD ilvl scaling was great. All it needed was fine-tuning to make the gap smaller between geared and fresh players.

BFA magical scaling is rife with misunderstanding and unintended consequences. And it still fails to make freshly-capped players competitive.

At the end of Legion Venruki made a thread about how inadequate PvP gear is, but there’s one line in particular from 2017 that I can’t get out of my head:

We need ilvl scaling, set bonuses, and resilience because without them PvP gear loses to M+ and raids in a fight we’ve never wanted much less won. Good PvP systems don’t just create balanced PvP–they also create time for PvP.

And time spent with friends is the best asset MMORPGs have.

Set bonuses and ilvl scaling is all that’s needed. Resil/pvp power was tried and failed experiments.

I just don’t understand. To all the people complaining that removing PvP scaling would make the people with worse gear get steamrolled… Yeah. That’s the point in getting geared. To hit harder and last longer in combat. That’s the REWARD for putting the hours in.

wrong, and you really need to stop thinking this way, it makes you entitled.

what happens when MrPVE comes in after spending hours upon hours farming gear to “earn” his reward in pvp and still loses, game after game after game?

does blizzard owe him a win becuase “he put the time in” should the players who put time into learning how to be better at pvp be forced to take a loss just to soothe the ego of 1 raider?

I think it’s pretty silly to say that he’s “wrong” when this is literally how the game worked for at least 10 years (Vanilla through the end of MoP).

There’s nothing wrong about wanting a similar system. The point of this game is literally gear progression.

thats not how the game worked and thats not the point of the game.

I guess it’s pointless to argue if you’re just going to refute fact.

im not refuting any facts. let me know when you have some real ones.

PvP item scaling introduced halfway through MoP in patch 5.3, referenced here:

Where was the scaling before that?

Idk i myself love scaling. I can use my lvl 70 twink in azsuna and get clips like this. Even against a 17k hp warlock and 52k dh I can walk away victorious. My advice is to take advantage like the game rewards you to do. Instead of asking for it to be removed.

scaling is the modern answer to a long running problem.

before BfA’s scaling there was Legions Templates(IMO the most balanced system), before that WoD had special PVP gear that scaled up over PVE gear in PVP combat in order to give pvpers the advantage. before that MoP had pvp power and defense or something, (i dont remember mop too well), before that we had resilience, and before that you had psuedo-pvp gear with higher stam and armor.

other than the very first patch of the game, pvp has never been about rewarding pvers dungeon crawling with free kills in pvp.

IMO, the best system is one that scales everyone to the same ilvl, allowing for no gear advantage but full theorycrafting and build potential.

I think you might have missed the part about it rewarding PVE players, even though they had not ever participated in PVP.

Seems bad that as a PVP only player, I can’t be on the same PvP gear level as someone who only PVE’s.

Legion, BfA and to some extend Vanilla, rewarded PVE players with better PVP gear than PVP players earned from PVP. Seems like the wrong approach.

I agree, and WoD to me did that because of how easy it was to gear up in PVP and how close in ILVL honor and conquest gear was. And it was all earned doing PVP. Gearing up for PvP by doing PVP is fun. Legion was not as fun for me because of the lack of gear progression.

Maybe there could be a system where you earned stats in some way to make it feel better, but WoD seemed to be the best of both worlds in this regard. Relatively fixed ilvl, PvP gear earned in PvP, and choice of stats.

Assuming this character is your main. If we were to remove PvP Scaling at this moment in time, you could outplay your opponent and you will always lose.

One of the major issues is that as time goes on the gap of gear level widens. It used to be a difference of 5-10 gear levels, now it is 50-100. Throw in special subsystems and you are in for a bad day.

Players like Asmongold for example, want to be carried in raids so their gear is higher. Go into PvP and roll face across keyboard to win. This is boring and unsatisfying. I do not like it when I beat someone solely because my gear is better.

Yes, gear should give an edge. More so than gear, the choice in gear / talents should matter. There is no satisfaction with my 475 warrior smashing your face in. It is already bad that my Gushing Wound spam does 40% of the work.

Certainly it would. It needs to go hand in hand with easily attainable honor PVP gear and conquest gear that is better but within reason (e.g 15 ilvl). And PVE gear needs to be toned down and/or PVP gear tuned up in PVP and warmode.

PVP scaling makes me upsetti spaghetti.
