To be fair they could have had that with the High Elf conflict that already exists though.
The Silver Covenant and the Blood Elves aren’t exactly friends these days either way.
Again, as above, I imagine the same could have been done with just the SC or high elves in general being the ‘source’ for Void Elves. The mere fact that they’re void infused would have been enough for them to be instantly more cautious because of how Alleria’s interaction with the Well was anyways.
and for…
All this the same would still have applied.
Not faulting your words or thoughts here mind, I just don’t get why Blizzard didn’t use a detachment of the Silver Covenant instead of the Blood Elves we’ve never heard of.
Much as I love my void elves and I hate listening to the overblown reactions of some of the other folk interested in High Elves overall this will always seem so very foolish of Blizzard to me.
Maybe but I personally don’t think it would have had the same impact. Lor’themar and a majority of other blood elf leadership (Halduron, Aethas, Tae’thelan, etc), wanted the High elves to return and things to go back as it was, and in a way some High elves also wanted that, it was just the politics.
I’m guessing for the creative team, it wouldn’t be as impactful as the idea of “Blood elves betraying Silvermoon and the Horde and becoming Anathema to the Sunwell while helping the Alliance”, compared to “High elves taking on the Void and helping the Alliance”, for the purposes of BfA.
Mind you, I do think the entire origin basis of the void elf story was silly. It was incredibly out of left field, with no build up, and Alleria coming back as some sudden void enthusiast was odd. It definitely should have been built up, and if it had, they could have easily made the silver covenant the main focus for it.
It’s still an embarrassment that Shani Edwards pushed for Void Elves so hard, while it was very clear what the community wanted, required and also needed. If they would have at least involved the Silver Covenant to justify the changes but it didn’t.
I’m so, so grateful that we Horde-players got at least the race(s) we asked for and don’t have to beg for scraps. The Void/High Elf disaster only shows that there is a two class system when it comes to being a paying customer.
