Remove deserter debuff

If you’re not going to allow us to blacklist certain BG’s that one doesn’t want to play, then remove the deserter debuff we get when we leave that said BG that we don’t want to play.

I’m not sure why you Devs think MAKING someone play ANYTHING in the game that they don’t want to is creating a HAPPY experience?

You guys need a serious head check because you are so far out of touch with your player base, it’s becoming a world wide gaming embarrassment.

Removing the Deserter Debuff would definitely hurt Alliance. Reintroducing a system they already had with swarms of positive feedback called the Battleground Blacklist would be wayyy better.

If anything, the deserter debug should be increased to be account wide.

You can choose the specific BG you want at any time. You can blacklist all BG’s except the one you want to play. You control that.

A 15 minute debuff is hardly a gun to your head. No one’s making anyone do anything.

Deserter exists to help prevent backfills and short teams. It’s not for quitters who don’t like this BG or that one.

Eh…

Deserter is fine as it is, removing it altogether is probably excessive and would result in unintended consequences. Just like increasing it would result in a different kind of unintended consequences.

Bringing back blacklist is a much simpler idea imo, everyone would be happy.

Simply making backfillers “exempt” from deserter is another good idea. I’ve floated the idea of a “grace period” for backfillers (only) during which they can simply leave without getting the penalty.

Is it? Sounds to me as if the team that has had people deserting would never have a full team for the remainder of the match…

Because the same thing would happen like in BFA where they got rid of Strand of the Ancients since it was so heavily blacklisted.

Not that I have any hard metrics on it but blacklist didn’t appear to curb desertion at all to me. Tons of people still left the moment things went south.

I liked blacklist too but it was unhealthy enough to get cut so don’t expect it to come back.

Literally this, the problem isn’t the bg it’s the players in this case. Once shat hits the fan everyone leaves

From a purely practical/pragmatic perspective, I see it as a win-win

  • bad teams/weak teams lose faster, so the match ends sooner… so there is less suffering all-around
  • more “fresh” games are encouraged with grace period for backfillers, since you wouldn’t have the situation we have now where backfillers zone in, see the score at the top, and immediately AFK out (cough Wintergrasp cough) incurring deserter debuff themselves (wasteful use of players)… instead all these backfillers could be used to slap together “fresh” games

I know it sounds harsh, but I tend to believe that most people stuck on the receiving end of “blowout” losses or “one-sided” losses would prefer the game ending quicker anyways (judging by what I see in chat during such losses).

you cant just choose whatever bg you want unless you want a 30 mim + wait time

that would not help anything. you just want to see people punished for leaving, but that would lead them to log out which does not help with wait times or anything else

It should 100% be account wide. Right now, it’s easy to leave a BG and log on an alt.

nah, im not staying if i back fill into a 7 on 10. any losing back fill has maybe a minute or two to convince theres a chance or i probably leave

its not so much an issue at 120, but healers numbers are still pretty unbalanced in leveling brackets and that is what im doing at the moment.

i had a 3 healer to 0 Wsg the other day, we crushed them as expected.

You shouldn’t. You signed up for a BG, stick it out.

opps made and edit instead of a new post up there

but uh yeah, go by that and then understand why im correct

I still have yet to see anyone from these forums answer the simple question:

So far I’ve not seen one single answer to this question from the usual suspects on the other side of this debate (Juga, Bynir, etc). Usually when they respond it’s some lazy one-liner sentence (maybe they’re on their phones or something?) that beats around the bush, while avoiding actually answering the question .

So far I haven’t seen a single well-thought out response that actually answers the question… just lazy one-liner non answers that deflect and avoid the issue.

The devs are wise, they have left deserter unchanged for a reason.

You may not like the answers given, but this has been discussed plenty.

Okay, don’t then- that’s your prerogative.

But don’t ask for a system to cater more to you then to the team you’re leaving high and dry or to the person who has to take your place.
